Why are people selling their Rockets?

I have been on fast bikes, I have been on quick bikes, this GT Rocket is my happy place. I have been scorched by a Plaid and a Demon, I’ll take that. And enjoy the wonder that is motorcycle riding. You can’t really describe it to non-riders. It is so much more than going down that same road in a car. I am thankful that I discovered bikes at a young age. Thank you Briggs&Stratton!

Yep. As the saying goes......Prices are dictated by supply and demand and for a couple of years now dealers have been still selling last years 'new' stock during the following year so discounts on new are there to be had. This is definitely having an effect on the second hand market, pushing down prices across the range of options for potential buyers.
That said, this is happening across the whole of the motoring sector in the UK these days, so it's nothing unique to the Triumph Rocket.
I can’t comment on the prices of Rockets world wide, but here in the U.K. I have noticed the prices of Gen2 Rockets, do tend to take a dramatic hit once out of the show room. But also early ones have sort of levelled out to around £5000 give or take. But get an immaculate low mileage pre 2010 example, I’ve seen people asking £10,000 for them! (If they got that price!).
I paid £7,500 for my 14,000 mile 2009 model as it’s the last of the pre ABS models, less to go wrong in my books!

Yes.
I think there's possibly a couple of things going on there.
The gen 1 is a very different bike to the gen 2 so they are likely to appeal to different customers.
i.e. Gen 1 is capable of two up touring, the gen 2 not so much (if at all). There is a finite supply of mint gen 1 bikes out there, so.....supply & demand dictates the price.
On the other hand, wait a week and there'll (currently) be more gen 2's coming up in the classifieds, as they are continuing to be made and sold....so not a finite source.

The market finds itself.

Fundamentally, the right time to buy is often 'now' if your certain to keep a vehicle long term..........life is short......enjoy the life you have left, in the way you would like to live it.
These bikes are luxuries at the end of the day, but if you can find the funds, the time to live is now.

As I’ve said on another thread, I feel Triumph are loosing out, by not building a super tourer around the G2 Rocket. I would have had one, but the boss wouldn’t get on the back.
I’m hoping this Rocket will last my last bike before giving up. 68 now, nearly stuffed knees, so hoping I’ll still riding this at 78.

I'm one of the guys who sold my Rocket,

Because I bought a newer one.
I did have the two Rockets a couple of years but decided that it was too much money to pay every year to the government to have two of the same registered so I sold the old one and bought a Tiger explorer.
I now use the Explorer for shorter trips and the Rocket for Sunday rides (200 - 400 km) and holidays.
By the way, I was just talking to the bloke who bought my old Rocket about 3 years ago and he told me that he would never get rid of it.
I'm not to keen on the 2500cc Rockets (haven't tried one yet) as I normally carry a lot of stuff on the bike when we go on holiday. The wife on the back and all the stuff she wants to bring and the new ones doesn't look like they are going to hold all that stuff.

Love It!

It is interesting how Triumph completely changed the target market segment for the R3 with the new design. The only time manufacturers do that is when they think the old model missed the mark. The old model was a Mack truck on two wheels capable of twisting roads, high speeds, hauling tons of gear but unrefined to many. The new model is eye candy gorgeous that will appeal to many. Unfortunately it is no longer capable of hauling like a truck and it lost the strong superstructure frame. While the new R3 is one of the most beautifully designed bikes on the market with lots of sex appeal, it is not able to fulfill my requirements for sidecar duty therefore can never buy one.
My 16, in my opinion, is beautiful! People who encounter it either love it or hate it. But it's water off this ducks back because you know what they say about a-holes and opinions. 😅

This is how me and the wife toured and carried a load of gear. I lived for 8 years in Brisbane out at Strathpine, where’s that park your in? I drove for Simon’s at Archerfield.

Agreed. I took a 3 year hiatus from bikes and built an absolutely amazing Corvette that was 1000 lbs lighter than my buddy’s demon and around 800hp. It was way faster than the Rocket 3.
Ultimately I sold it and bought my r3 GT because the experience on a bike is so much more fun for me.
