Hey there RayG-all I can tell you is that I bought a 2010 Roadster model with 6k miles on it in May of this year and have been riding it pretty much every chance I get...both highway miles and a lot of stop and go in-town miles and it has performed flawlessly. My Rocket purrs very nicely at 900rmps each time I come to a stop and pull the clutch in,with very little variation. No problems with overheating or electrical-I burn exclusivly premium gas though I pay close attention to this forum almost every day and others here advise that it is not neccessary or are against it. I figure if it keeps idleing smoothly at 900 and goes like hell when I ask it to I will continue with the premium.
This was my first motorcycle in a long time and I wished I would have thought about foot controls more seriously (didnt think about them at all actually!) and I wish my 2010 Roadster foot controls were about 3-5 inches more forward. I also wish I had footboards for long day rides-but these are things I can change this winter and may not be an issue for a younger man. (I am 55) I have been following this forum all summer and my impression is that the infamous ignition switch issues were pre-2010 models, but someone here with more knowledge will have to confirm that. -Doug
A new one has the longest warranty. Latest model has the most upgrades. 2010 was when the Roadster was introduced - it has ABS and a few other things like gear indicator and fuel gauge. Pre-Roadster, the 2009 had the least issues, in that Triumph was pretty good at putting them together by then. Some of the older models have needed upgrades to the tranny. Just buy the best one you afford.
Welcome by the way. Whatever you get you'll love it and plenty of help and advice available here.
If you can find a 2009 standard, you would be in the upgraded era and the pegs would be in a better place for you. I'm wary of 2008 and before when I am looking (as if I need another one). 2010 was the first Roadster with the pegs moved back.
I have a 2014 Roadster, it fits me perfectly, but others have complained about the seating position and the location of the pegs. Having had the detent spring problem with my 08 Touring, (and I'm fairly certain they are still using the same spring) I paid the extra $1000.00 for the extended warranty. Which adds 5 yrs to the factory warranty.
I'm pretty sure by 09 all of the major problems have been worked out except the detent spring and the ignition switch
Welcome. I have a 2013 Roadster. At first it had an issue with stalling on decel. Turned out to be a minor issue with the stepper motor. That's been resolved now. Other than that, I'm very happy with it.
I'd get one of each year, just to be sure you have the best one. My 2010 Touring has had no problems in 26,000 miles, and I've been known to flog it a bit.
