If the resistance isn't within canbus tolerances (whatever that may be???) this will happen. The only thing you can do is experiment with resistors of different values and hope for the best.

It turned out to be the circuit that made the lights sequential. The ecu couldn't communicate with them. I switched to non sequential models and all is well.
