Took A Gas Bath

not sure if these things would work for you. Gascard

Well I guess today was my turn. Had a pump that didn't seem defective and the latch was fine. I was reading some of the writing on the gas pump then all of a sudden the gas is spilling all over the tank and on the ground. The gas coming up to the tip of the pump never activated the shut off like it normally does

Thankfully the window washing station had fluid in it and paper towel so I took the squeegee and started drenching the tank and everything in windshield washer fluid to wash the gas away then dryed it as much as I could with paper towl. The bottom pocket of my coat also got some gas on it. Thankfully I was only a couple miles from home. Gotta pay attention for now on.

After letting the bike cool I washed it real nice and waxed it then let it run for a bit to evaporate the water. Then I had the bright idea to open the gas cap not thinking about it being over filled and expanding after running. A ton of gas rushed out again so I used my auto brake bleeder to suck a couple quarts of gas from the tank to get it where it should be.
hopefully that will be the last time I let that happen.

On our way home from the DGR ride yesterday, Tom (son-in-law) had to fill his Triumph Bobber's tank as the ride was long enough to light his warning light. We pulled into a Quik Trip and as he was filling the tank the gas nozzle stuck open and he had the same reaction, pull it out of the tank and then try to figure out how to shut it off. Fortunately, he didn't explode in a ball of flames. He spent some time wiping down his bike with paper towels dipped in windshield washer fluid. We got home without further incident.

Makes ya wonder how often this happens and no one talks about it because you never see posts about it on any other motorcycle groups/ forums. Maybe its just a triumph thing
