Hey guys, Last week while riding Harrison, i noticed that when in neutral, with bike running, i pushed the shifter to go into first, the neutral light went out and i was in first, never felt the classic clunk just the light went out and i was in first.
when i let off the clutch, i started rolling and 2 seconds later, the bike came out of first and into neutral again, while still rolling i pushed the pedal again and this time i heard the clunk and i was in first for good.
A few hours later, in one of the many stops, it did it again for 2 or 3 times, i repeated the procedure and i was in first.
From then on, i made sure i was in first, by rolling the bike a little until i heard the clunk.
What worries me, is that some day my son or my son in law may ride it and the bike would jump out of gear at low speed in a tight parking lot maneuver and end up with a 900 lb bike on top of them.
It never jumped out of gear once i made sure it was in first for sure.
When we got back, i grabbed the shifter with my hand and felt the slack up and down, it seems like too much, i checked @Sparky59 Rocket and it feels about the same, but other rockets feel tighter, with less than half the slack of mine.
Any ideas on what it could be or if i need to worry about it?
Any help will be appreciated, and thanks in advance!

there has been threads on this one guy saying he was going to take it to the dealer and complain so i told him i wanted to be there when he told the dealer to make his clunck
mine does that and when it goes in soft it always wories me that it will popout and it has on a turn almost dropped.
if it goes in soft i usualy give the clutch a quick release (for test purposes) and some times it pops out. i think that this is normal?
i never think of it but maybe give it an extra tap just to make sure.

Positive shifter engagement is always needed, remember that if you were to pull in clutch, wait long enough and then try to shift into 1st, the trans shafts may be sitting totally still(no longer moving) the odds of the dogs being perfectly aligned are less than 50 percent (the slider dogs could be hitting the gear webbing instead of hitting the open holes in the gear) Remember the old manual trans that we grew up around...Chev., FORD, Chry......old trans with wear....when putting into gear the shifter didn't move ALL THE WAY into position....and would "pop"out of gear .....same deal....Norm
