this is the second time that my heated throttle grip has broke the first time i was at work and then today after i did some maintenance to the bike the first time triumph replaced it under warrenty im hoping they will do it again where it broke is where u put the cable to the grip the plastic piece that holds the pin in the hole is what broke and this is on the r3t anyone else have this problem
Yup, mine broke around this time last year. I still have the replacement sitting on a shelf in my garage and that's where it will stay. I don't think the plastic they used can stand up to the heat cycles. I suffered through the Arizona winter with one heated grip. With judicious use of a Throttlemeister I managed to survive.
Interesting. I haven't really looked at the stock throttle grip. Is the throttle cable actuation piece different from the heated grip? It would seem likely since I've heard of at least 4 or 5 instances of the heated grips breaking.
Strange, my heated grips have been on since 2008 and have yet to break. I've even had them off and on a few times messing with placement and wiring from other accessories.
Are you sure you aren't just trying for that illusive throttle position 11 too harsh, like 6th gear?
There's got to be something different about the R3T. I've never heard of a failure on any other model, but like I said, I know of at least 4 or 5 R3Ts that have broken. If I really needed them I'd be looking at something like Gerbing's heated glove liners instead.
