Thoughts on this new way of adding storage?

will suit your needs perfect
now you will have space to store all the tools you deem necessary that did not come with the bike included floorboards, mobile phone storage, mudflaps and everything else you consider wanting to make it a perfect bike.
in fact I cant believe the bike did not come with this marvellous and stylish addition.

Have used this type of bag previously (albeit slightly smaller) for weeks long road trips and it was perfect.
For the R, just make sure the rear bodywork is protected, sitting on the pillion seat would damage the paint quickly. Even so, I'd not be mounting it on the sissy bar rack - it's got a really low weight capacity IIRC.

That looks pretty much perfect, to me.......but.......BE VERY CAREFULL.........about loading up the Triumph rack.
It can break if you load it up too much and you hit a sharp bump in the road.
They have fractured. I've seen photos on this forum, but to be honest, I don't know exactly what level of abuse was given to them.
Just thought it was worth mentioning.

I don't think that is possible. If my memory serves me right, the rack is bolted onto the backrest, so, no backrest, no rack.

The backrest is made up from a set of aluminium castings and they are shaped to align and fix down through the tail trim/bodywork.
They are complex in shape (hence the reason for casting them).
The rack supports are also castings and they bolt horizontally through the backrest castings (think M8 machine screws?)
The actual rack itself sits on the two supports (pointing backward, behind the backrest uprights) and is fixed vertically with four M6 screws.

I don't think it's easy to modify/reinforce the assembly, like perhaps it would be if it was, say fabricated from steel tube or plate/strip.

My opinion is that if you want the carrying capacity to be more, you might as well start from scratch, but to be honest, I haven't looked into it in any depth or detail.

I used a similar bag for a 1000 km round trip. And it was a big bag. Total 72 ltrs.

I have the R so it doesn't have the sissy bar. I tied the bags using the straps that it comes with. The front straps were tied to the footpegs and the rear strap was looped under the pillion seat. And it worked just fine. The bag did move from side to side a little but I tightened the straps every time I stopped for fuel or water breaks.
