2022 Rocket 3 R
I had a 2014 Rocket 3 Roadster. I planned on building it out but enjoyed my XDiavel S, which is better to ride most days, and sold it. When they came out with the refreshed 2020 I was really tempted but I thought I'd give it a few years to see how they held up. So far I've read of any major issues and the handling seems vastly improved over my 2014.

Today, I bought a 2022 R with very low miles. I plan to mod it and am trying to figure out the best way to spend the money. I don't want to piecemeal it and do a little here and there with no coherent plan. I set aside $5k to mod it, but I am looking for the best bang for the buck in the $3-5k range. I'd rather just skip to the end product and have it all built at once instead starting with a tune, then adding intake, exhaust, cams, etc. I am not opposed to going with forced induction either.

I don't want something really temperamental to ride, and I don't want to sacrifice rideability for top-end power. I have been out of the R3 ecosystem for years but previously was considering going with a Carpenter build. Not sure if that is the best route now. I also don't want a super loud bike so willing to sacrifice a bit of power to keep my hearing.

I would also consider spending more (an absolute max of 10k) if there was a lot more to be gained, but typically, you get diminishing returns. I also ride in very hot weather, so I need a tune that will tolerate 110F+ days and not miss a beat. I want something fast, reliable, and easy to maintain. I may do a lot of city riding or pick up and ride 500-1000 miles daily if I have time.

I don't have time to do the work myself, so I'd have to farm it out. I am working in Dallas for the foreseeable future, and the bike is here with me, so recommendations of a shop local to Texas would be a huge plus. While I am focused on motor mods, I am also open to suggestions in other areas if they are clearly weak there. I read through many of the threads (Kevin Frazier's being one of them) and need guidance on the best possible approaches for my budget.

I really appreciate any help for those of you have gone down this road.

Thanks stingray. That is a place to start. Not to start something like an oil thread, how does the Penner tune compare to BT Moto?

I thought of another way to approach this that might help others some day. Let's look at it from pre-requisites before you build and then by stages, associated cost and notes. I'll start and maybe others can fill in what they think.

Pre-reqs
  • Quick shifter
  • ?
  • ?
Stages
  • Stg 1 - tune / +30 whp / $1k
  • Stg 2 - ?
  • Stg 3 - ?
  • Stg 4 - ?
  • Stg 5 - forced induction / =150 whp / $10 - may not need some of previous stages (i.e. turbo would likely not need an exhaust from earlier, whereas a supercharger could)
Is there a good place currently online to get factory Triumph parts at a discount? The company I used to use no longer sells Triumphs. I don't have shift assist on mine, and I also want to get heated grips.

Get rid of the stock exhaust. If no other reason to lower temperatures on the bike. That cat cooker does a number on it. Just this morning after a short ride in 75f pleasant weather the swingarm was reading 191f and the tank was 95f. It permeates heat up through the entire bike. I could feel it creeping up my backside through the seat. I'm going to put the Competition Werkes on mine.

Thank stingray. Are you just talking about a slip on exhaust or something going from the head back?

I was looking at this one already. Might be the same you were considering.

I definitely want to keep the temps down in Texas. I rode here last year and it was being roasted on another bike even late a night when it was still 90F plus so anything I can do to keep temps down, I will definitely consider.
