Stated having trouble with starting again. I would get clicking sometimes cold most times hot. Keep hitting the starter button then it would kick in. I thought it was because it got to hot near the started but when it started happening when cold I knew it was something else This happened last year, I changed the relay and all was well till now again. I changed the relay Sat and all is well again. Anyone else try this fix. So far in 53k I have had 3 TPS and 2 starter relays and LOTS of SMILES

Is the clicking coming from the starter relay or down by the starter itself? Did you check the battery ground at the bat and also the 2 connections by the starter?

Ditto on the connections, I replaced my starter relay recently but still had problems, it turned out to be corroded battery terminals.

Your problem might be the relay but I would suspect the problems originate on the starter terminals. If the resistance at the terminals is high then the amp load through the relay gets higher causing the relay to prematurely fail. The crossover relay for the starter gets full voltage and amps through the relay. So as amp loads get higher more heat is generated in the relay. This causes the spring metal to change and the solenoid coil to get less efficient, so you get clicking and chatter. When that happens do the headlights look like a strobescope? Clean the terminals on the starter and see if the relay lasts longer.;)

I had been struggling with the same issues. After a great deal of searching I traced it back to the fuse box.The 2 main fuses one 40 amp one 30 amp were still intact however were melted terribly and somewhat coroded on the terminals. Especially when hot the starting system could not pull enough juice through the bad fuse connection. I believe the melting was at least partially due to the need for headlamp relays that I have since installed. Might take a look...

Ditto that Honker. After replacing the starter relay and cleaning the battery termials of corrosion, I thought I had my problem solved also, but it came back. So I dug into the fusebox too today, and lo and behold, there was a lot of crud on each of the fuses, so I filed them all down, coated everything with dielectric grease and reinstalled. Back to normal again. Hope it lasts.

Electrcial problems are the pits, so effin fickle, good for a while then wham, all of a sudden no go. Its probably not a bad idea to take a day and go through all of the electrical connections on the Rocket, check them out, file them down to good metal if needed, then coat them with dielectric grease. I was surprised the fuses were so cruddy, seems like they would not be exposed to that, but dang........
