my starter has been giving me intrmitten problems lately, heres a list of electical mods ive done, removed the clutch safety switch, keyles ignition, headlight relays, and driving lights tha wally word kind,ok in tha morning she will crank just fine but after i ride for a while and have to stop for gas and then try and crank her up the starter just clicks first two or three times no start , then all the sudden i hit the start button and the starter fires up the bike, is this heat issue or what , what could cause this problem? pretty sure the clicking is comming from starter, 07 classic 25000 miles

over heated relay switch? i had this happen once bike got so hot that when i turned on the power the relay switch poped and the bike would not start untill the switch reset it self. after it cooled down.

I had this problem last year and am having it again, it goes click click click then starts..after a while it will happen even cold change the relay

The starter button when pressed diverts the current from the lights to the starter solenoid. The solenoid is like a large relay with the ability to handle the large current draw required by the starter. The solenoid points can get dirty and fail to deliver the power, these can be cleaned or replaced in some starters. Check and clean all battery connections both positive and negative, check and clean all starter connections as well. The clicking you are hearing is probably the solenoid activating but not delivering the power.
