Man, seemingly every time I work on one of my bikes; specifically adding an accessory, something goes wrong more often than not.

Removed my 25" Clearview and installed the Triumph Sport screen on my '08 Classic yesterday afternoon. One would think that's simple to do. Well it was....

...but now the clutch cable is rubbing against the left Sport screen bracket; and the edge of the bracket is sharp enough to start gouging and peeling away layers of the clutch cable sheath. Does this when the steering is turned back and forth.

A supplementary cable guide came in the kit, with instructions to use it only on the Rocket 3 standard, not the Classic. :? I went ahead anyway and tried to install it, but it severely bends and stresses the clutch cable so I took it off.

I guess I need to find something that I can wrap around the area of the cable where it is being bit into by the edge of the Sport shields bracket.

Always something....

Black Duck Tape 8) or Gaff Tape.

Ha! Maybe. That "Gorilla" duct tape is some heavy duty stuff. But the edge on the bracket is so sharp, it would probably work it's way right through it.

I pondered a little bit; and for a temporary fix, I used one of my rim protectors (made out of a hard plastic, nice curve to it) but it looks like crap. I'm going to run to Peps Boys here in a minute, and see if they have anything that will be a more permanent fix.

I think anything made out of rubber is going to be defeated by this dang bracket. This sharp edge (bracket) wore out a substantial piece of the cables rubber coating.

Keep in mind I might be full of it, but it appears that the sportscreen comes with 3 chromed metal cable retainer clips. In your picture it appears you have just the lower one installed on the clutch cable side. On the Triumph website it appears that they have the upper and lower retainer attached to the clutch cable side and the single lower retainer attached to the throttle cable side. In other words, it appears you may have it opposite of what Triumph shows.

Had the same prob on my 07 classic, tried an old piece of innertube wrapped around help in place with tape lasted a week! got a 4 inch piece of ruber oil line split it open and put it on works great not getting marked at all

I ended up using a piece of 5/16" fuel line; split it and put it over the cable. It's wear resistance against the sharp edge of the bracket is superb.

However....

....after my ride last Sunday (135 miles) I took off the sport screen. Certainly doesn't do a **** thing for diverting the numerous and grossly splattering bug impacts all over my shoulders and helmet.

Have remounted the Clearview windscreen; am undecided if I'm going to keep the sports screen or let it go....

I run a lot of Interstate here. The larger shield fits my riding habits better.

had same problem with my Windvest.I then routed the clutch cable on the outside of the fork legs.............

so now it rubs in a different spot!

See? Fixed!

how much for the sport screen, Will?

greg

Well, I paid $250.00 for it on Ebay shipped. If I decide to sell it, I'll let it go for $200.00 plus shipping (probably $15.00 or so.....)

with hardware?

With the brackets and nuts/rubber screen cushons/bolts that it came with. You still need the Triumph Fixing kit to mount it though.
