just bought an MY14 R3 With 13000 klm on the clock, seems the speedo diplay is incorrect and the trip meters dont work correctly, is this a common fault

thanks for that, i bought it from a local dealer so I will tackle them about the ECU, the speedometer is covered on their three month warentee but not the odometer or trip meters

All part of same assembly
What exactly is the issue ?

As matter of course, check fuse #3

the problem seems to be the speedo is reading faster than I am actually going reading approx 140 klm/hr when I am actually only travelling at 100klm/hr and the trip meters 1 and 2 are ticking over 1 klm in about 3 seconds I know these things are fast and I have been used to my "fat boy" but thats a bit over the top.

Have you checked speed & distance against a GPS?

The trip increment at that rate sounds bizarre however.

The trip & odo & speed all derive their signal from the same sender
What barbagris was referring to, is that there is a customizable calibration factor in the ECU to scale the speed (for example with gearing or tire size change)
But doesn't compute that, even if speedo 40% fast that the odo would be that fast - at 100km (actual) it would take 36 secs for 1km
At actual 140km, it would take about 26 secs for 1km

I agree, the bike does have Avon AV72 240/50/R16 on the rear and Avon AV71 150/80/R17 on the front but I dont think thats any different to the tyres they come out with

Thanks guys, you have given me a couple of things to look at, will check fuse number 3 as suggested and I will set up a GPS to check the speed displayed against the actual and the distance traveled against the odometer have to leave it for a couple of days though we've got some bad weather coming in.
