Slipping clutch VS bad Tranny

so I was reading barnett makes SS cables for clutch as well... migth get one when I order..but don't see the part number for Rocket????
Buy one of Nevs lock up clutches  no more slip problem then

cost of the clutch or the install?

tryign to get a feel for what a dealer migth quote me so I know weather to ttake it to different shop if its too high

At 10K my stock 2005 clutch was replaced (5K Stock, 5K all mods). The plates LOOKED brand new, and the mech even broke out the calipers to measure it. Hardly touched.

We surmised it was the springs being too weak, and over 10K of use couldn't stand up to the torque WOT past 3500 RPMS. So, FWIW, a set of new, or stoutre springs would have theoretically solved the problem.

Barnett Clutch/heavy cable installed (which comes with heavier springs) and roughly 9K later under certain conditions (meaning below 75 degrees and low humidity) my bike is making substantially more power) she will slip.

I also believe it is the 2005 clutch internals that have worn and are now causing the lack of clamping, which needs to be addressed, certainly before I make any more mods or move to a cooler climate!

If you didn't burn or warp your plates you could just order the Barnett springs but if your clutch is slipping bad under just a little throttle I'd say your plates are glazed and will need replacing.

The Barnett clutch cable is a special order item. Look for my thread how to install clutch cable for info on ordering one.

And like I said in your other thread, inspect the clutch lifter, shaft, bearings and washer. There's a good chance one of more of those will need replacing especially if you're on a pre-2006 machine.

I adjusted it but if you give more then say half throttle its slipping....

Although I want the Lockup, I'll probably just get the barnett for now...

and I'll do myself so I can inspect all those items inside...

It's new plates for you then. Careful, giving her throttle while she's like that. The massive slippage can burn the oil in there, though a fire is not likely, you will likely smell her burning.

This has been an interesting and enlightening thread to read. While you guys are out there running the drag strip, pushing the performance edge and smoking your clutches, I am just riding around on my stock Rocket, cracking the throttle once in awhile with a big grin on my face.

I must be doing something wrong....

I think I need to call Barnett and ask them if I can order a STIFFER set of springs then what they offer in there standard kit...

I'm not worried about a stiff lever I have big strong hands.....

would rather not have to keep chaniging clutch and or springs every couple thousand miles....

HD springs and new cable... in addition to the standard Barnet clutch discs... I'm dying to see if the ones I have are even damaged or if my springs just got too soft...

I'll post up photos when I strip it all apart...might have to put the rocket on Injured reserve list for a few months while I order parts and get everythign ready... Have a big road trip planned next month... probably wont be able to do that and repair rocket same month....

hoping my Wife gets a better job soon so I can afford more HP parts!!!

yeah I was adding up gaskets and oil and filter and clutch etc etc

I did find it for 162.95 at PHat performance....

so that plus might as well flush and refill engine and radiator while apart... good thing I have a sears jack and a corner tin the garage it can sit for a while....
