R3 shocks

I have my rocket touring (stock) rear shocks set to 4 (I recall it can set from 1-6). I have done a number of iron butt days and the ride is fine. I do recall my Valkyrie being much more comfortable on the long rides, but it may just be that I was 10 years younger then :)

The manual should have a weight chart for the shocks. I'm not a little guy (6'3" and 275lbs). 4 seems to work fine, though the chart says I should set to 5, if I have a passenger.

OEM shocks are sourced for price, not quality. Unless you are riding some gee-whiz sporting ******-missile the shocks are from the shallow end of the quality pool. Buying better shocks gets you more adjustability and therefore more comfort. Top shelf gear will still feel like a truck improperly adjusted. The key is shock travel working in the optimum load range and damping set to road conditions. The OEM shocks can set the preload only, which might get your optimum load range pretty close, but zero damping adjustments. So it can still feel like a truck.
