Quite a boring sound

Hi all,

Many topics on this already but none seem te be specific for the EU. Since exhausts here need to have a CE certificate and need to be approved for the EU market and relevant MY of the bike. So this leaves us - as far as I am aware - with the Zard option only. Which is not usable with the panniers. Which sucks. Any ideas on this or do we all end up with a Harley for decent sound (can’t blame the creator of the Netflix movie for replacing the boring rocket sound with something more exciting).

Anyone aware of any other options?

PS: trade in value for a 1,5 year old Rocket 3 Triple Black GT with 3,500 km is pretty low as well: EUR 19k

Sounds as though you're thinking of selling up if you can't make your bike sound more beefy. ???
If you can't live without a loud/gruff exhaust sound, but at the same time don't want to break the latest laws, I think you've got a significant challenge on your hands.
The latest noise law is there for that exact reason.
As I see it, you have three options:
- Ignore the fact that the exhaust needs a CE stamp and go for a wider range of offerings out there. (perhaps wise not to get the loudest one and get nicked the following weekend)
- Modify the stock system in a way that's not visually different from standard. This has already been done by some folks on the forum.
- There is a system available with a switchable valve and it's panier friendly, but is very expensive....(i'd say, too expensive).

In the Netherlands, where I live, it won’t be dramatic to have a non-certified exhaust but in neighboring countries it is, such as Germany.
I wouldn’t mind paying a mark-up to add something to the bike, like a Jackel&Hyde system for example, but it still needs to be certified , which for example the Vandemon exhaust is not if I am correct.

But yes, it is challenging, however it should be possible even within the current limits. For example the Kawasaki Z900RS SE which we also owned sounds amazing. Zard actually sounds pretty decent but doesn’t go with the panniers unfortunately.

Guess the bike isn’t popular enough to get us a Jackell&Hyde produced (Dutch company making awesome exhausts).

I actually appreciate the sound of the stock exhaust. I have Indians that are louder but the R3 is way faster and more nimble. Overall performance is more important to me. I do have a 2014 Roadster with a Viking pipe that plenty loud but most likely illegal in most countries.

I think you've shone a spotlight on a very interesting point there, Rockansky.
Triumph must have spent a huge amount of time and effort to package the exhaust system, while bound by the objectives of meeting the latest noise and emissions legislation while trying to make sure that the bike had good cornering ground clearance etc... Of course the styling department will also had a significant influence and it's pretty clear that the preferred solution wasn't for long silencers.....All in all, that's quite a tough brief.
It's going to be a very talented aftermarket manufacturer to develop a system that can tick the required boxes, including the very restrictive noise and emissions rules.
I think the only way it can be done is with exhaust valve technology, but that is expensive......Who will be prepared to pay for that kind of system, when a significant ratio of Rocket owners will just ignore the CE certification and take there chances with getting a fine for a lot less cost to buy a (pssst...it's not for road use) aftermarket system.

Who knows......maybe something will eventually come to market. Fingers crossed.

Vandemon has two options. One with the switch operated bypass valve. Pricey, like the Rocket 3 but looks better to me than a can or two hanging out there.

Yea, it would be so great if they had made it Euro 5 and CE compliant . Would have paid the 3k for it actually. Now the bike sounds like a big fart all the time.

You know, when people look at the bike and think: man that’s a beast. Until you start it and nothing happens.

I like the set up also although two things bother me. One is the price of course and the second is the low muffler. Based on these pics I would say if you're aggressive and grind the pegs you also grind the muffler. It is a good sound and looks decent also. The price is just down right ridiculous though to me anyway.
