Can someone with an R3T that has a tach please tell me what speed (in MPH) the bike is going at 2500 RPM in 4th and 5th gears only. Thank you in advance. :D

Apaprently, no one has a tach on their R3T.

I did have a standard R3 prior to buying my R3T. If I recall, my standard R3 was around 70 to 75mph at 2500rpm and 80mph at 3K. That was with a corrected speedo. The mph reading was true speed. If the speedo is stock (uncorrected) then you could add 5 to 10 mph to the above speeds depending on how far off your speedo reads. I have found, some are worse then others.

I am guessing the speed / rpm ratios are not different between the standard R3 and R3T whereas the gearbox and drive train are the same. Not sure this helps you much....

speed

I have a tach on my R3T, I will be riding my bike in a couple of days when the rain and snow go away and will let you know what speed the bike is going at 2500 rpm.

I have an excel spreadsheet I made back when I had my 2003 Sprint ST. You enter the tire size and gear ratios on the first page, the next two pages will tell you your speed vs rpm and rpm vs speed. If I can find it in the mess of a file structure on my computer I can send it to you or work it out for you. That won't be anything more than by the numbers, not real actual measured. It was, however, **** close to spot on for my Sprint when using a GPS for a speedo.

Motorcycle gear/rpm/speed calculator

Here is a web calculator for speed and rpms. I used 2500 rpm for a redline, primary ratio 1.034, 1st 2.929, 2nd 1.947, 3rd 1.435, 4th 1.160, 5th .964, final 1; tire size is 180/70r16.

It says about 160 in 4th and 193 in 5th. That seems off to me, but when I check it long hand I get the same result. Its got some TALL gearing.

Is that in km or MPH? 160 km is 100 MPH? I would not think the bike would be going 100 MPH at 2,500 RPM in 4th gear? Can you explain please?

Rpm

Now you,ve got me worried! I won't be taking it up to those speeds to test the theory.
In Ontario they take away your car or bike if you do 50 Km hour over the speed limit.
I will see what it does at 2500 rpm in 4th, but I dont know if I can do 5th if it goes more than 130 Kms an hour.
I think Rash powder might be right about 5th @ 2500. It will be a very high speed..

Yeah, I don't really think those numbers are right either.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe Triumph included the primary drive ratio in the ratios for 1st thru 5th. But changing the primary drive to 1 doesn't really change things either.

I honestly don't know. I didn't source my formulas from that website, got them off a chevy site. Doesn't really seem possible that two people made the same error in calculations, but I suppose it is possible.

Now I really wish I had a tach!
