Output Shaft Bent etc.

<What would cause it to feel as though it's bent if it's not?>

On my output shaft, before it was replaced, the bearing was starting to loosen, had some play in it, and was causing the grinding sound when wheeled forward in neutral. Could that be what's causing it to feel bent?
 
Ican't recall if you had the upgrade done? The casting that supports the output bearing is redesigned and is replaced when performing the upgrade. It must offer more support than the original.
 
Maybe it bent from your fat ass sitting on it.

I'm going to try to get to the dealers today to see if I can get more pics and look for particular areas of damage to check out various theories from here and elsewhere.
 
Not worried Mate, didn't think it was too serious a comment from Juggs having seen some of his other posts :lol: there was just a hint of sarcasm in my reply let me know how you get on at the dealers.

I've heard nothing but good about them, not cheap, but thorough.

Called today and took some more shots and had a chat with the owner about it.

Two gears behind the output shaft previously posted, looking like excessive heat??



The possible culprit????



The pic shows the shiny surface of the dog which engages with the gear above it. Does this indicate that said dog may be slipping out under pressure and dragging across the back surface of this gear before relocating?

Selector fork which engages with the dog above is showing signs of wear and there is a little play when it is in place.



If this is the problem Ruzzle wins half a cigar, because it's the problem he guessed it might be (in a PM), but not where he thought it was.

The end of the spring is rough, but until it's stripped we won't know for sure if there's a problem there also.
 
Hey Paul - would you mind having a look at those two measurements I mentioned anyway?? The "available" spline length, and the smallest of the "cam lobe" heights. Near enough would do.
(And I THINK the lobes in the back of the gear are not as high as the lobes on the hub...??? but don't know....)

Just trying to get it straight in my head whether the "override" is physically possible.... Park the Jag, you've got time....

And in the other thread on driveshaft splines, we are wondering whether the splines on the front end of your driveshaft were dry when it was pulled apart??? If we need to grease 'em, it's a swingarm job!

My drive shaft splines were fine thanks mate, well lubed!

However, splines on the other end (gearbox output) were lubed (I think) but showing signs of wear (I'll check on the lube situation).

The tech who's working on mine is not in until Wednesday so I'll get him to strip the Torsion Damper and take measurements. I informed the owner of the dealership today that we are not only trying to fix mine but provide an information resource to others who are pushing the limits so he's aware of the priorities.

Looking back over the thread you and Doc (Turbofan) may have to have half a cigar each!!
