One year old Avon cracking ALREADY?

The front metz on my Speedmaster started cracking on the sidewalls after 5 months and about 4500 miles (still had plenty of tread). I contacted Metzler and they said to take it to a dealership and have them inspect it and call back. To make it short, I got a free front tire, but I did have to pay for instation.

If it's got good tread and the cracking is bad, contact Avon.

Cracking or checking is normal with exposure and age. As long as the rubber isn't falling off or splitting, you should be okay to wear 'em out. IMHO

My darkskin on the rear is still perfect after over a year. I wish I could put a darkskin on the front. Why are motorcycle tires so inferior and cheaply made. They probably think because you can't carry your whole family on a motorycycle it's not important. I guess one ot two people are expendable. :? :x

its all those oyster shells that you ride
seriuosly i had no problems with avon tires when i had mine 98 t-bird would get bot 15000 on rear and bout 11000 on front but probaly different on the rocket

My last avon venom on my old shovelhead only lasted 53miles in 1 day.
I tried to get a warranty job on it but the tyre joint said something about the fact that there were signs of excessive heat and friction, must of been a lot of friction as the front wheel didn't move at all lol

The worst tire I have ever seen for "cracking" was a Dunlop D404. I had two fronts disintegrate in just months of installation. I raised Hell about both of them, finally Dunlop "Looked into it" and sure enough their compound was off.

My recommendation is contact Avon and let them know whats going on. It might be a normal wear and tear issue, but it could be a serious problem. It never hurts to let them know.
