I have friend (with a VERY big mouth) that has a Harley Electra Glide "Screaming Eagle" and, according to him (at the time) was fast as greased lightning, blah blah blah. I was on my Tiger 1050 the first time I heard him going on about it so I offered him the opportunity to show his muscle against my Tiger. He declined because "That's a sport bike". He went on to say, however, "I bet it'll take your other Triumph though". He was talking about the R3T I owned at the time.
That was a stupid statement on his part. He's 6'7" and goes around 280-300 lb range. Even if we were on equal equipment he wouldn't have stood a chance. I raced bikes for years. He's a casual rider. He's also has over a 100 lbs more weight to move down the road. Well, a couple of weeks later we were out and about and I was on the R3T and he got his chance, mainly because I reminded him.
After that night, anytime I would be around him on that bike, he'd tell everyone standing around "That Rocket is a FREAKING ROCKET". Interestingly, he never saw it at its best because I didn't even have to down shift to leave him. I rode beside him and kept looking over at him for about 10-15 seconds. Then, I just cracked the throttle and watched him disappear in my mirror.
Moral of the story:
Rocket III (even touring model) with 150 lb pilot is probably not a good choice to attempt to show your "Screaming Eagle" prowess, especially when you're the size of King Kong. Lol
