Rocket 3 Classic 2006
Hi,

I have a Rocket Classic 2006.
Had a front end accident with the bike and i'm now rebuilding it.
I changed the front end, engine cover, cooler, clutch.
It's now almost done except one little problem.

Not starting.
Everything lights up. Instruments work. I can hear the fuel pump.
Relays are ok. Fuses are ok. Battery is ok.
I can't hear the starter relay and nothing happens from the ignition switch. The lights wont dim during the starting attempt.

I used the ELM 327 OBD2 reader with Android's Torque soft software and got some codes. I cleaned the codes and after that i got new codes. So i'm not sure about the compatibility of this OBD2 reader. Still teh codes where.

First, g'day and welcome. If you get a chance, drop in to the Meet the Members and say hello etc.

TuneECU is the programme you should get. It will tell you all sorts of info about the bike, including the on/off position of kickstand switch and clutch switch etc. Assuming that all those are correct, and you have the clutch pulled in, and the kill switch turned on, then the relay would be a good place to start. If your headlights don't work, or are'nt plugged in, the bike won't start either, but I assume they are okay because you say that they don't turn off when you hit the starter button.

P1552 coolant fan short circuit/open circuit.
P1500 Vehicle speed output circuit malfunction
P0654 Tachometer circuit malfunction

I would check the harness plugs up front to include the fan plug which you had to have off maybe the main cluster harness plug running to the instruments. Especially if you had the whole front off.

Thank for advice's.

The first problem was the clutch switch, there was a bad contact. After that i found a bad gnd connection at the starter relay. After fixing all this it tried to start. Battery was dead and didn't charge from battery charger, so it needs to be replaced. With help of starting cables and my car battery i finally got it running.

I still need to test everything with the help of TuneECU.

What would be a good replacement battery for this bike?

I like the stock yuasa to be honest. Have tried loads of different batteries over the years on different bikes but have came back to Yuasa.

Any battery where you have to add the acid pack yourself is the best bet. If you by a pre charged, pre filled battery you don't know how long it's been sitting. Batteries age as soon as they're filled, shortening their useful life in the bike.
