New to the Rocket family

In NZ we only use RON as a measure, nothing else & no Ethanol gas either, no E10 or E85, nothing. So it's easy for me, book says 95 so that's what I use. Other countries have different standards & fuels, so guess ya just use that which suits your profile best.

This is what Google / AI have to say on it . . .

Greetings from sunny North Texas. Using premium is only if you want cleaner fuel in the system, the engine doesn't need it. I also have a Bobber but I upgraded the whole suspension, front and rear just to ride it without detonating spinal disks. Now it's a real joy for blasting about town. It has the 9L tank so not too far between gas stops. Other than that, it's a hoot to ride. The Rocket has a lot more of everything so enjoy your new wheels. In case you were interested, this is my 2020 Bobber Black:

That's a great bike. I was thinking to do the same upgrades but then saw a deal for a used Rocket...
As you say the Rocket is a bit more of everything. But it is very smooth. With the Bobber, I was careful revving it if there were dogs or kids around, b/c it had a very angrysnarl,
Actually the suspension on the Rocket is what I appreciate first and then the power/torque. I am getting more comfortable with it's wider profile with things like going around the barrier arm gate at work. Eventually to lanefilter (legal in CA) I also plan to add side panniers for some light touring. It's silly but I feel the bobber looks less nice w/ the lockable panniers but I don't mind the Rocket w/ luggage.

Hi, I'm trading in my bobber to get a 2020 Rocket R3!
I feel some melancholy b/c the Bobber did nothing wrong except perhaps I should have upgraded the suspension.
One day I may go back to it...

As to the Rocket R3, the dealer advised me to use to premium octane fuel.
I like my dealer but they also advised me to use premium in my Bobber and it started shutting off randomly while idling at stop lights till I went back to 87.
I had always heard that going to a higher octane may be unnecessary but didn't realize it could cause problems.
So w/ this 2020 R3, which fuel should I try? This is in California btw if it makes a difference in terms of additive or measurements.
Relatively low compression engines don't need premium gas.
