Thanks guys, I guess he is enjoying his first full day of it today. He did the early enlistment program last year and has been going to PT twice a week for the past year, so he is in fairly good shape, but I guess they will still smoke his ass. If he decides to stick with it, the past year will count towards his retirement.

Tell your son thank you for serving.

Ahh, the memories of boot camp. Hot Alabama summer, screaming drill sergeants, midnite PT.....

I managed to serve 12 years Army and Navy, before I got injured and put out.

Difficult to find the right words to express the gratitude and admiration for his willingness to serve in these difficult times. Simply THANKS will have to do for now.

Ditto what tdragger said above, from this lifer civilian.

Our country is the better for having folks like you, Wilbur, your son and all the others who have served, are serving and will serve, honorably!

Wilber,
been a couple of weeks now,
any word?
I remember the haircut,
yes i still had hair then,
the tailor made and fit uniforms,
the fake one for the graduation pictures,
The tear gas party,
the scrumptious food at the mess hall.
Ah, the memories...almost brings a tear to my eye.

Yea, he'll be different, tell him thanks when you you talk to him.

Skip, his mom, [my ex.] just sent me a text saying she got a letter from him today, so I'm hoping to have one in the mail box myself when I get home. I'll keep you posted.

He's got time to write a letter....or two, boot camp must have slacked off since 1971.

Seriously, it's good that he has some time to himself to be able to write home, helps take the mind off of more, soon to be, pressing matters.

I hope he is doing well, I'm sure, even these days, he is having it rougher than I had it in a Navy boot camp...good luck to him.

Well, the letter was just a Marine Corp form letter with his name scribbled on the bottom, but it gave us his address. I wrote him a letter and mailed it this morning. Hopefully he will be able to write back.

I have been in the corps for 15 years now. Your boy is making a good decision joining the gun club. Don't worrie about him at PI . they will take good care of him there. And the sand fleas will be glade to give him a nibble or two.

Send him mail that says go army on the front and they will take extra good care of him.
