Well those crazy deer. Never crossing where we put up the "deer crossing" signs. What? Can't they read.?
But seriously, the insurance has written off the bike. So I'm looking for some info. Some questions I have are
1.what are some issues that need to be considered? Tyranny. Wireing. Detent spring? What years might be suspect.
Any thoughts about a 2007 Classic.?

General consensus is buy as new you can afford. The detent spring goes out on the older ones more than the newer ones but it is still a weak link nonetheless. Transmission issues are more common in the older ones also some possible shift fork issues. There is a place that can rebuild the transmission with the gears cut which helps it shift smoother. It shifts into first pretty loud which gets some people's attention if you are coming from almost any other bike other than a Harley.
Those are the negative points. The stupid grin the R3 puts on your face is something you wont find in another bike and makes up for all that MIGHT go wrong.
Welcome to the board. You have found the number one resource for owning an R3. There are many helpful people here who will help you through any issues that may arise.
Welcome to the board from Minden Nevada USA. What was your previous bike and tell us some more about yourself.

Agreed the newer the better. Roadster or Touring depending what you want to do with it. Touring is tuned down, but that is an easy fix.

My son's 07 Classic, formerly mine, is still going strong. There have been a ton of posts on this subject on both the .com and this site over the years. I agree with others that newer is better but to me the Classics had a much better riding position, with the floorboards, than the Roadsters, which I find very uncomfortable because of the location of the foot pegs

Points for pondering

1) Do you want ABS or not? - ABS can affect exhaust change options - but not seriously.
2) Do you wish to change the vehicle instruments? (later CANBUS bikes you cannot)
3) Riding Position - your size - and use. You can swap some parts about to get there.
4) Do you want a BLACK bike? - if not later bikes will require a respray.

In Blue would be nice :thumbsup:

Thanks guys, hadn't thought about the classics riding position. I found another 2008 classic. I had to do the detent spring on my 2008 touring which the deer hit me. Do you know if the ignition switch had been fixed by 2008 classic?
