Muffler Repack = Retune?

I have a set of Jardines that I am going to repack because they have gotten louder and louder. Turbofan posted a good article on this subject.

My question is, once you install the new packing, is this going to change your back pressure enough that it would require a retune to compensate from this?

I noticed in his article that they wrapped SS wire around the fiberglass on the new baffle which held the fiberglass on the baffle. If you greatly increased the amount of wire used by decreasing the distance of the wraps, I would think that would allow for more support of the fiberglass thus decreasing the amount of air that would be able to get thru the fiberglass. And to me this would also extend the life of the new fiberglass and instead of needing to repack them every 12k to 15k miles, you might be able to strech this out to maybe 20k

But by reducing the air flow out of the muffler, you increase the back pressure and the question is. Will it reduce the air flow enogh to require a change in the A/F mixture?

Anybody with expirence or thoughts on this?

That sounds like a good idea also. I work out in a refinery, I wonder if I can fined some lying around that may be surpluss? uhmmm......

Are you thinking that the coarse stuff will still let it move air thru it but knock the sound down while it is at it?
Does that make sense?

T: I used the Accel Exhaust wrap kit to wrap the inside of my pred baffles. This is the cheapest place I have found to buy the kit along with the stainless ties. You may be able to find it cheaper somewhere else though! Since I only have one baffle, the 25 feet was more than enough for me!

If the bike was tuned correctly when the Jars were fitted, and it's gone off gradually since then, all you'll be doing is returning it to the "correctly-tuned" situation...... :?: :?:

Did you see the Racing Repack Kit at the bottom of the page? I has the SS and steel wool and fiberglass all in a kit. Now the question is, will 1 kit do both mufflers?

On another note, I have been reading about your Salvo down in the TX hill country. I have never riden down there and if the timing is right, I will be joining you guys for a couple days. But, my job doesn't allow me to plan that far out. Usally its jump on the bike and go because I had a chance to get away.

T: Thinking back to my Jardines I had, I can't remember if halving the mesh and the steel wool would be enough to do the trick or not?

If you do have the chance to join us, I'm sure someone will have room enough for you to join us on a couch or in a bed somewhere for a couple of nights. I hope you can make it.
