If you grew up on the 70's like I did you'll remember all the kids having the Honda 50 Mini Trail or the Honda CT 70 Mini Trail. I just worked for the Mecum Auction and they had one 1969 50cc Mini Trail that went for, get this $10,500 USD. Then they had a 1970 blue fully restored CT 70 that went for a paltry $5,000 USD. I remember my CT 70 cost $315.
I had the pleasure of attending the Mecum Auction at the beginning of the year in Vegas, and was amazed at what kind of money the mini bikes of my day grabbed on the auction block. Mind you most of these bikes looked like just off the showroom floor!
Thought I would post a few pics of of some of those monkey bikes, which all sold I believe.
First bike was a benelli 650 i think. Bought it and had never rode a bike. Found parts at Montgomery Wards department store. Never did run right. Got it to run one day and ran right into a dead end 2x6 blockade. Broke my leg and messed me up. That is when i discovered what a clutch is for. That ride was my first and never forgot it. All i could talk about on the trip to the hospital was how great it felt riding . My dad to this day still talks about it. Years later bought a RD 350 two stroke. Last year of that model. (1975) It was also the day i graduated from M.C.R.D. Since then have rode a few bikes. The orange Yamaha 350 still to this day thinking about it brings a smile.
