Hi...Need some help here. Just came back from a evening ride with 30 other Triumphs..When we were passing true a little town in slow speed the bike just died on me... all lights went off except the oil lamp an the motor was stone dead...just before it happend it had some problems taken low rpm's. I pulled the cluch and pulled of the road. Then I turned off the key, turned it on again and all lights was working again and the bike started :?: Anybody ever treid that? Couldt it be water in the fuel or maybe it got to hot (shouldt some lamp give you a warning?)..Hate it when things like that happens...
 
Strange . :? Hate intermittent probs like that , has it gone away , one of those odd blips , or is it waiting for your next pose down the high street :lol:
 
No much to go on. Probably didn't over heat. Your fan should've been working like mad if she were hot and the oil temp light should've lit.

Most likely a wire or ECU hiccup. Hit a bump that engaged the sidestand switch? If the ECU is getting corrupted, you should have more signs of bad running. Water in fuel can make the engine hesitate but you'd need a lot of water to kill the bike. Still putting in some fuel "dryer" from time to time is a good idea.

Think Sully is right. She probably waited for the best time to make you look like a fool and played you. My Mistress has done that. :lol:
 
Don't look any farther than the wiring for the cause. Water and heat would (IMHO) :lol: :lol: in no way be able to be so sudden, total and intermittant. Check the contact of all the fuses, (pull them out and put them in, same with the battery cables. For me, I would stop at that point and wait for a replay, and take my 10 mm Allen at all times. Next time it stops, tilt the tank and start wiggling all the plugs. The dealer will be really handicapped by the intermittant nature of the problem. Good luck. This can be the worst thing to try to track down. (No pressure washing for me, :cry: )
 
Check your kill switch position and make sure it is fully locked. Then work it back and forth several times, I'm not sure about the Triumph's switch but the contacts can corrode on some and cause problems. I usually use mine to kill the engine when I shut it off. Keeps it clean and working when/if you need it.

OMG I Got a helmet, it must be my birthday or something.
 
Early on everyone was insistent that you not shut off the motor with the kill switch except in extreme emergency. That was blamed for all sorts of ECM/running issues. Now you're saying you've had no issues? Interesting.

Isopropyl alcohol. In the States the main brand is HEET. Removes water from your fuel tank through a chemical reaction. Should use it once a year as maintenance. More often if you leave your bike outside a lot as the fast temperature changes from night to sunlight will make water condense inside your tank. Water will build up over time if you run in a lot of rain too and of course water makes the inside of your tank rust.

Yeah, I wouldn't use the kill switch to turn off the bike. It has been the cause of corrupted ECU's and odd ECU behavior. The ignition switch is your primary on/off. Some people use the kickstand but I prefer the ignition.

Also, do check your battery connections like IDK said. I've had starting problems and battery charge problems because one of my connectors worked loose. My bike seemed to run fine with a loose connection though.
 
I'd not heard about the kill switch causing ECU problems, I guess that I will have to form a new habit off turning the bike off. I've been turning off my motorcycles that way for 36 years, it'll be hard to break the habit.
