My new bike has Jardines and they are hot, hotter than stock, as I recall. Can I do anything with the headers, like more shielding, wrapping with heat tape, or coat them inside or out?

I hated the garbage header shields, so I removed them, ground off the little mounting nuts and wrapped the pipes. It seemed to help a bit with the heat, but they still got pretty toasty.

That looks good. Would it help to mount the old shields or custom ones over the tape?

By the way, what are you using for a tune?

He has a 06 Mike which has a different ECU in her then your Roadster has. Doug send me your e-mail address and I think I have one a little richer which will run cooler. I never really noticed a heat problem on my 05. I would look at spacing the heat shield out a little more for free air flow behind them. You could also add some heat backing to the shields only. Wraps work well but hold moisture which will screw up the header pipe.

The stock Jardine heat shields work pretty well - the bugger is that the small screws that hold them to the header get very hot and will burn neat little holes in anything that touches them - like cordura trousers. Heat backing the shields only partly works as the screws warm them up via conduction.

There's a small area where the front header pipe goes behind the other two before they come together that's not shielded. The stock shielding is much better although that sucker is hot too.
