Ride
'13 roadster
Hello all, my name is Loz, I live in North West England and ride a Roadster, which I have owned for 9 months or so. My bike background is varied, all the big four jap brands, Moto Guzzi & Benelli . I was a serial restorer of 1970's jap bikes for over 15 years , but had a change of heart a year ago and finally ended up on the Rocket. I love it every time I ride it, just wondering how long my license will stay clean.

I have been watching this forum for a while, and there is a fantastic wealth of knowledge and experience here. I'd appreciate some input on this please : just done an oil and filter change ; previous oil put in by (non-Triumph) dealer I bought bike from was Motul ( distinctive red colour and nice sticker as well). I've just filled with Mobil 1 15W-50 fully synth bike oil. I have used Mobil 1 for years in various bikes, but never seen what I see now.

The engine oil pressure light goes out correctly, and I've got the oil level roughly correct, but each time I start up the engine I get a layer of "aerated oil " in the tank. These are small ( less than 0.5mm diameter ) bubbles held in suspension in the oil. when I switch off, it takes upto 30 mins for the surface of the oil in the tank to return to "transparent" . I do not recall seeing this with the Motul, but this is my first dry sump bike so wondering could this be "normal" for the rocket ? I'm worried by this as logic tells me that air suspended in the oil with be reducing the lubricating and load bearing capabilities. I need to resolve quickly as have a 2500 mile trip next week and currently I won't ride the bike until I'm sure whats going on. Thanks in advance for any input or advice.

Loz, welcome from Florida.Sorry do not have an answer emails patient somebody will chime in with an answer soon.

In order to keep the sump dry the scavenge or return side of the oil pump is always of a greater capacity on a dry sump system. The Rocket's pump is twice the capacity so it will obviously pump a fair amount of air along with the oil so bubbles will form. I've never looked long enough to see how long it would take for the bubbles to dissipate but I wouldn't worry about it.

Hello Loz and welcome from Virginia. Like TO says above, I believe you have no worries with them bubbles. Just remember not to slam the front wheel down after the wheelies...

welcome from arizona
not to worry.

Welcome Loz from Maine, I think you've gotten good advice, I've seen bubbles in my tank also after a ride,
