I hope this is the right thread, that is, the "introduce yourself" thread. The way I logged on confused me a little.

I'm Ryeboy, first name is Ryan and am 63 years old. I currently own a 2007 black and white Triumph Bonneville T100 (love it) and an older 1974 750c.c. Triumph Trident that is not running, it used to be my brother's bike. I joined this site cause on Tues. June 12th, I'm gonna take the Amtrak train from Lincoln, IL to Farmers Branch, Texas (suburb of Dallas) and pick up a 2008 Rocket III, I have purchased. It's red and white and has 5,100 miles on it. It's got a windshield and saddle bags that came with it and then I have had the dealer (RPM Cycles) install chrome engine bars with highway foot pegs and Triumph's "off road mufflers" - the $550 version. I'd like to have Jardine headers but could not afford the $1200 price they want for the Jardines. This is the Rocket III Classic version and the dealer told me with the new exhausts he thought the bike would be running about 142 to 144 horsepower. Because I do not know anyone here, i can tell ya the price i'm paying out the door for this Rocket III beast - $11,500.00 out the door, I'm not sure if I paid too much, but it does have quite a few options i wanted. I am now "motorcycle poor."

I have been wondering what weight and kind of oil to use in this beast, so I've been reading the oil threads. In my 2007 865c.c. Bonneville, I use Mobil 4T 10W40 full synthetic. However, I did read an article by Mark Lawrence, who has done some extended motorcycle research, that he believes it is OK to blend oils. This is his opinion and he admits he's only an electrical engineer with motorcycles as a hobby, but he has done lots of research on filters and oils. Y'all can look him up if you type in Mark Lawrence, motorcycle oil in your search engines.

Let me know if you think I paid a fair price for my soon to be bike and any other ideas you might have. I like this site and am hear to learn and exchange or bounce ideas back and forth. Thanks all.

Hey Ryan Welcome from Perth downunder..
Ill wait 5 years for you to catch up :D
Congrats on the R3 Sir.. not sure about US prices but it doesn't matter as long as you are happy mate :)
As for blending oils nah!! I wouldn't risk it in my R3 motor..
I would say better to stick with the Synthetic with a weight to suit your climate and the bike milage. Other's will give their views Im sure ;)

Take care its a big snarling lump.. enjoy

Welcome to the site!

The only opinion that matters with regards to what you paid is yours. If you're happy, then it was a good deal and I wouldn't give it a second thought.

p.s. I just bought a Bonneville T100. I currently have a Thunderbird 1600 and a Tiger 1050. I'm getting ready to sell both, however, as I can justify all the bikes right now. I had an '08 Rocket III Touring, but sold it about a year after I bought it.

Welcome Ryeboy

As far as oil goes Mobil 4t is what AI use 10/)w40 and as far as blending, I don't blend any oil.

Enjoy the grin factor

Welcome from Tulsa Ryan, enjoy your train ride, that's something i always wanted to do and have not done it yet:)
The price you paid for your Rocket,,, it depends how much you wanted the bike, if you are happy with it nothing else matter, just remember, after the rocket, everything else is a mini bike:D

P.S
Stop and say hi on you way back to Illinois, you will be ridding right thru my neck of the woods:)

yep, Welcome to the site and Rockethood.
As far as "did ya pay to much"
Naw, I don't think so, I'd say ya got a pretty fair deal.
You got a basically new bike with a lot of extra goodies ya wanted
for less than a new price,I'd say you did alright.
I'm right up the road from Mexican, stop in an say high.
Spend the night if ya want.
We're about 4 hours North of Dallas, you might want something cold
after your first 4 hours on her.
Welcome.

Don't Mix oils you could end up with a disaster our baby's love the Full Synthetic Oils I use the Castrol full synthetic 4T Racing it is thier full synthetic and my bike loves it

Welcome Ryan, and you are old :D. One yr. older than me . I paid retail for my 1st 06' standard that came with nothing. I put about 2 grand of goodies on it to make it mine. wrecked it and got an 06' in 4-08' brand new out of the crate for the price you paid with nothing again. So all in all you got a good deal. Put a lot of miles on it and get used to the fun.

The folks at RPM are pretty cool. I live 30 miles north of them. Dream cycle is right next door and have a ton of other scooters to look at too. Feel free to stop in on your way back. 940 206 6131

Welcome to grins unlimited
You didn't say how many miles on it but it sounds like a good deal
From my experience the 08 rockets are the good ones most of the bugs were worked out by then and they don't seem to have the new bugs that plague the new ones
I had an 05 and loved it
But alas it's gone got replaced with an 08 and it's a great bike
No problems at all
Personally I think ya got a fair deal
Look into a eastern beaver relay kit for it and a gipro with atre to unleash the extra power that they hold back for the general public that and a set of throttle miester throttle locks the heavy set and you should be all set
Again welcome
You will LOVE the bike !!!!
