Hi, Jeff from Jacksonville FL. I dont have a R3 right now but im working on a tourer from out of state as we speak. Ill know by next weekend if I can do the deal. I just sold my 99 Venture and im itching for something different. Sat on a 14 at the dealer here and fell in love. I have friends in the other state who are riding over to check the bike out. Friends that I trust. So far....LOL. If they give the OK then ill pull the trigger. Its a pretty hard bike to find for a reasonable price. So ill be lurking around the forum to see what I can glean about the bike from you guys. I do most of my own work on my vehicles so getting my hands dirty dont worry me. One question....how hard is it to check/adjust the valves? On the Venture there were 16 shim under bucket and what a PIA to adjust. Took about 4 hours. I have always used Honda Moly 60 on my parts as well. The R3 im looking at has 10k on it. Looking forward to learning about this beast.
G'day and welcome. You will love the RIII. If you post where the bike is for sale, some one on this site may know the bike and be able to help you out. 10,000 miles is nothing, I have 100,000 more than that on mine. What year are you looking at?
As it happens, 10K miles is the first scheduled interval for doing a valve check/adj. service, then to be done at approx. every 20,000 miles thereafter, so if the bike you're looking at is attractive to you, either make sure it has been done or use it as a bargaining chip.
Like you I had a Venture Royal (1984 edition), not a bad bike especially with a "detuned" VMax engine in it. The R3 Touring is much the same way with a "detuned" Rocket III engine in it. This is my second (2007 Rocket III Classic and a new 2014 Rocket III Touring)...they are great bikes and you will enjoy riding the Touring model. Good luck and I hope you get good news on it.
Bike im looking at is a 2008 Tourer, red/black located outside Houston TX. It looks real nice now im just waiting on my Texas buds to take it for a ride and report back to me.
Thanks for the welcomes.

There is a very nice ECU derestricting tune on these forums to give the bike some punch and make it run smoother,I installed it on my tourer and haven't regretted it. I bought a cruiser,so I haven't gone nuts with mods, that's for the roadster boys. But it does ride like a cruiser, and will.snap like no other cruiser should you need it,good luck on the purchase.
Welcome Big Dog from the chilled Northern Virginia area. I only have 3000 miles on my R3T right now but so far it has become one of my top rides and it is my 28th. I hope to see your many posts of Rocket adventures as the weeks unfold.
The search continues. I have decided to hold off on purchasing the 2008 for the time being. Mainly it has to do with financing. I have a very high credit score and my car has a 1.9% interest. Best interest rate that I was able to find was 7.99, mainly because of its age. My own bank wasn't much help but they did say I could buy a new car at 2.9%. Go figure. So, ill continue to stash some cash away and I should be able to score the right tourer in the near future with a fistful of cash. This was a beauty too but there will be others. Im sure one will cross my path sometime soon.
