My rocket is driving me nuts. Last year 9500 trouble free miles. This year a lousy 2k on the clock due to idle problem and now a really annoying surge.

I had the idle fix installed this summer and it idles fine at about 900 rpm. However, i felt it was surging at about 1700-2300 rpm. Just back and forth when you tried to hold a steady speed in traffic. This has got worse and worse. Yesterday the dealer put in the suspect 386 fix claiming it would solve surge. It did not. What drives me nuts is that they allegedly test the bike and tell me it works fine now, I take it out and immediately notice the surge is still there. I then take it back and the owner rides the bike and confirms the problem.

This surge is really in all the rpm ranges but most noticible when you try to ride about 40 in third which is a speed range I find myself in alot when riding around Boston. I do not notice any problem when accelerating harder. The dealer is out of ideas and is going to contact Triumph. I have no faith in them at all right now.

It occurs to me it is possible that the problem is not related to the tune but something else is causing this. However, my experience with electrical causes they are usually worse at the higher rpms not better.

Do I switch to a tuneboy? I have been nervous to to this since I have no experience in tuning with a computer. Is there some expert in New England with access to dyno or gas analyzer to do this correctly. Will tunebody solve my problem?
I tell you right now if I didn't have so much money in this bike I would be looking seriously at another one. It is just no fun to ride.

It could be that the throttle stepper motor or Throttle Position Sensor is starting to fail or getting goofy signals from the ECU... Voltages for the motor and sensor can be checked with the Triumph diagnostic tool or Tuneboy... Wiring from the ECU must also be checked for solid contact, dirt, worn wire, etc... Your dealer should be looking into those areas instead of a quick fix new tune... A dyno map would not really diagnose those problems... You will be wasting your money until you get this addressed... However, if you do decide to custom map your bike, I would suggest Robs dyno out your way...
