Helmet Lock - Boltlock

I recently purchased a "Bolt-lock" helmet lock from Fast Eddy. He suggested I mount it on my rear shock bolt. Has anyone done this? Any other suggestions if I already have bags mounted? Can I just unscrew the top bolt holding the rear shock in place or is there any trick?

FYI, I read one time in this forum about the great customer service from Fast Eddy. I can only underscore that comment tenfold!! He has gone above and beyond helping me and communicating with me as if getting my bike in order was as important as if it was his own! Strong recommend.

Is that the one with the cables, and the keylock that slips over a round "T" bushing?
I have one and I used the bolt at the base of the sissy-bar. I know, one could say that it's not secure due to the acorn nut being exposed on the other side. But after you glue the threads on the nut to the bolt .... I seriously doubt anyone will be removing it in a parking lot while your having dinner.
I considered the shock bolt but that makes it stick out further than I wanted and interferes with the saddle bags.
If you have the same kind I'm thinking of and have a luggage rack or sissy bar, that's my suggestion. I considered using the forward bolt on the chrome trim for the rear fender ... can't remember why I decided against it.
Yep ol' eddie's a good guy, too bad a couple of his suppliers aren't. I won't mention any names ... RIVCO.

update: I checked the lock and it's the same one I have. Great lock for jackets and extra stuff. I've used it thru the wheel to lock the bike to a pole, thru the handles on a suitcase, and today for my helmet/jacket and the helmets/jackets for two riding buddies with room to spare. ( I have the short cable and the EXTRA long cable)
My only complaint is that sometimes it's a little difficult to use in the dark.

Bolt Lock

Thanks for info. I dont have sissy bay and have saddlebags. Can I just remove the rear shock bolt and replace with no problem? Wasnt sure if there was tension once I removed bolt. Any ideas?

The shocks support the back of the bike so yes there is some tension. It would be best to jack the bike so the rear tire is just barley touching the ground. You may be able to remove one shock bolt without any other preparation but I wouldn't recommend it.

Here is a cut and paste from the service manual instructions to remove the shocks.

1. Raise and support the motorcycle so that the
rear wheel is clear of the ground.
Note:
• If both suspension units are to be
removed, place a block beneath the rear
Wheel to prevent it dropping when the
second unit is removed.
2. Slacken and remove the upper and lower
mounting bolts and washers then remove the
suspension unit from its mounting spigots.
