I have had a U/J dry out - rip the bearings in the crosspiece to bits and shear the gearbox O/P shaft on an Old Guzzi - At 80mph with my missus on the back - Luckily it sheared open and not locked up.

I don't like things I cannot lubricate - especially when I am told they don't need any. Was able to fix it myself.

Was this the original Triumph U/J or from the trike folk?
It was a factory trike offered by Triumph for $29,999. The trike part of it & where the original u joint came from is made by Motor Trike out of Texas. It was sold as a factory package though. Their trike kits sell for $10,000. Suppose to be top of the line but the components used didn't seem like premium stuff. Lots of rattles.

Welcome William, from Maine, Haven't heard of a trike from Triumph, unique. Anyways those types of problems seem easily sorted, new parts and on your way. I suspect some bad parts as the cause, should have gone 10's of thousands of miles before replacement. I wouldn't give up on her just yet.
