Has anyone ever heard a dealer talk about Gear Backlash in the transmission. When I roll on the throttle in 5th gear at 120kph pulling 2800-2900rpms there is a notiable clunking sound that is felt in the foot pegs. This clunking will go away once the rpms creep above 3200-3500rpms. The dealer relayed some info from triumph saying that the R3R uses straight cut gears and with an engine this size gear backlash is common. The guy working on my bike took it for a ride and he thought is was a broken ujoint, he rides a R3 Classic and he has never had that happen on his he said.

Anyone else experience this?

Sounds like a problem to me, but I'm no expert wrench. Whatever it is it is definitely not normal.

Post this up on either or both the general tech Talk or Common Issues forums and I guarantee you'll have a good idea of what's up right quick!!!;) Good luck.

I have had the same problem but it seems as if it is slowly going away. A friend of mine called it "clutch clug" which is common with shaft drive motorcycles. I have never owned a shaft drive so I'm a rookie to them. I have over 5k on it now. When I feel it starting I just ease off a tad and it will quit.... once up in RPM it totally goes away. I just keep riding hoping I don't have to use my extended warranty.
