Don't exactly know how it came about but 2 days ago I noticed that downshifting has become a chancy and bizarre event. Not a solid feel but there is resistance however not getting expected results. Hit and miss to find a gear and when I do I have to let the clutch out to figure out what gear it is. When I let the clutch out and it is in a gear it pops out after a sec or 2. I eventually find 1st at stops and it upshifts ok. Not real solid but it doesn't miss a gear. It's like the downshift places the gears between engagements. Any of you wrenchers have an idea? I will have to leave it for 2 weeks before they get to it, spring rush and all. Looks like another withdrawal this season. Last year it was the upgrade kit. :(

R3T Gearbox problems?

My R3T has gone to the dealer on the tow truck. Your troubles sound very like mine. Two weeks before they can look at the problem. Just as the weather is warming up! Keep us posted especially as to whether Triumph pick up any of the cost.

Rode to the Bike show Sunday with my mechanic that installed the upgrade kit. He said the upgrade kit includes a new roller with bearing on the detent arm and it appears that it is a spring issue. I will wait until the 50000 mile service to bring it in. Maybe by then they will be less than 2 weeks before they can get to it. Until then it is hunt and peck. :(

Bob, you're being paged on the RAA thread. Paging Bob Baggage!!!

Thanks td, **** near jumped ship. Hope to see you up there again this year.

Don't want to sound alarmist but I'd recommend being very careful about riding it until this is fixed. I reckon I was lucky. A bit of the spring had gone missing in my bike and the dealer went to the trouble to retieving every bit - you really don't want bits of metal floating around in your tranny. Just got back from Cobba's funeral where we found out that the cause of his fatal accident was the rear wheel suddenly locking up at about 80km/h - resulting in a 100m skid, fish-tailing and him being high sided into a tree. While the actual reason for the wheel to lock up is not yet determined, he had mentioned in another thread that he was having similar problems to the ones I was having so it certainly can't be ruled out. Just saying to be wary and careful.

Appreciate that friend, I will take it under advisement and contact my dealer in hopes of getting it in sooner. ;)

I'm changing out my detent spring now. Have everything apart waiting for the spring to arrive from my dealer. Pretty easy job, the only thing I had to have help with is the 30mm nut that holds the clutch basket on. Took it to a local bike shop and had them spin it off with an impact. Lucky I found both pieces of the spring. My bike has 19k miles on it.
