footboards question

I'm eyeing up a new Rocket 3 and I find the footboard option to be attractive. Problem is, I can't stand using a heel-toe shifter.

Question 1: Can you use a standard shifter with the Triumph footboards?

Question 2: Is there enough play in the shift linkage to squeeze a Size 14 boot underneath for upshifts?

Thanks guys. I'm renting a Rocket in Vegas next week with pegs. I'll give that a try before making the decision. Maybe the pegs are fine as is. I'm used to footboards on my Road King, but I guess I'm not wedded to them...

I'm renting from a place called escapeeagles.com. The Rocket III is not listed on their website. Price is $680 for five days, including insurance. They also rent Harleys, choppers and who knows what else.
