Engine runs good at ambient temp around 60-70F but at higher 90F ambient temps engine runs pretty rough, seems like its running lean.Has stock exhaust,K&N filter, use 93 Oct gas,I am able to connect through TuneEcu but when I try to download the production 20048 hexfile, an error pops up"Invalid" file .

Changed plugs, cleaned airfilters, checked for vaccum leak but still runs rough at high ambient temp.Any inputs as to what might be happening, anything else i can check on engine

93 Octane fuel is no good for this engine (read your Owner's Manual). Try running 87 octane with some Startron in it to counter the ill effects of ethanol, if those corn squeezings are added to your pump fuel locally. You probably need a better tune as well, but I'd start with the fuel!

He speaks (or types) English normally so I gave him the factory recommended American octane rating... 87.:D

what Richard was trying to say is here in Auss the factory manual recomends 91octane here we use different rating system to the USA and other countrys use other as well but I agree I would be checking out the fuel first also check the tune you have is not corrupt and you don't tell us what model you have are you still running the cat, I have a good tune given to me when I was running triple K&N's Cat delete and standard mufflers PM me your E-mail adress and I'll send it but it won't be any good to you if you have a Roadster or a Touring:D

2005 R3,14000 miles on it
stock exhaust, stock type K&N filter ,has cat no modification to engine that I know of
has OEM saddlebag/windshield,so think its touring model
There is overcast conditions in my area for last few days and first time temp has dropped since i bought the bike.It runs much better with denser ,cold air conditions.

I have used only oct 93 so far ,toured quite bit and gas from various pumps& different cities .Riding 300 miles tonight to Nashville will give Oct 87 gas a shot.

There was no touring model until '09, I think. What you have there, v*twin, is called a Classic. be happy for that because if it were a Tourer it would be factory tuned for about 50 less horsepower to the rear wheel than your bike should deliver!

Here's the skinny on Triumph's 2005 R3 offerings,Triumph Rocket III (2005-current) - Triumph Motorcycle Reviews. The other model was called the Standard Edition.

Tested 250 miles with run bike on 87 & 89 Octane gas but still the same ,engine seems to run good with low ambient temperature.Wrecked my car last month so bike is my only mode of transportation so hesistant to change calibration download at moment.Do you guys think if faulty intake manifold temperature sensors/ any other sensors could cause engine to run crappy at high ambient temp. Also when i pulled out the old plugs for replacing ,all six were near identical indicating optimal air/fuel combustion.Could going back to stock air filter help

I'd run a twelve minute tune (turn bike over without touching the throttle or anything else, let it run for at least 12 minutes and the ECU will "force adapt" back to factory settings) and see if perhaps any of a number of the several engine sensors, (IAT, barometric pressure, humidity, etc.) caused the glitch. Sometimes, erratic or quick and drastic changes in atmospheric conditions will cause one of the sensors to prompt symptoms as you have described.

I have removed the underseat filter as well as the airbox and the plenums that supply the airbox, without any problems. As long as you run on "clean" roads (i.e. no dirt roads) the filter and the rest of that stuff do more harm than good, performance-wise.;)

Oh yeah! Once again, stick to reliable 87 octane fuel and try running a tank or two with thge proper amounts of Startron's Enzyme treatment through the system in order to help rule out problems that can be caused by fuel containing ethanol.
