Hi all

Unfortunately dropped my '08 R111 Classic the other day due to the engine dying as I was preparing to make a right turn. Luckily, I had almost stopped, so no real damage to either myself or the bike. Obviously I need to understand and cure the cause of the sudden loss of power. Aside from one suggestion that it could be the kickstand switch, it would be helpful if anyone could point me in the right direction as to a possible solution?

Look forward to hearing......

My first 'guess' would be throttle body synchronization. If the TBs are out the bike has a tendency to surge at low speed with a loss of power when you probably want it most. Synch the TBs (if you have TuneECU or TuneBoy) and see if the problem persists.

Thanks atomsplitter. There are no symptoms of surging, just the engine dying.....I guess by connecting to the OBD port, we could identify any issues in that dept. Not sure what you mean by Tune ECU or Tuneboy btw?

if you are to be helped then more knowledge is required.
year and kind of rocket, miles, how long have you had the bike, just started or long time problem, had any work done on the bike, is gas in the bike old ect?

The year and model are in the original post, 7500 miles, purchased in April this year with 6000 miles on the clock. I have completed 1500 miles this summer without any issues so problem has just arisen. No work carried out other than an oil change. Petrol is not old as it has been used regularly. It still starts and runs fine....

Hope this helps?

just throwing this out there if you were in to high of a gear and coasting into a turn and let out clutch then the engine would buck and die.
were you coasting or in gear when it died . well i guess if you let out the clutch to fast then it dies.
i would spray the linkages good then wot and let the throttle fly shut several times the linkage like to stick especially the one at the front (can actually rev to 5000 rpm with the throttle held closed)

TuneECU is similar to a Dealer Tool that hooks up to your bike's Engine Control Unit (ECU) and can process all the data the ECU processes. There are lots of tutrorials on Youtube on how to use it. The cost is about $30/yr for a license and works with Android and (because you have an 08 Windows) with a chip enabled cable. For more information here's the link to the website: TuneECU_Start

You can use TuneECU to monitor all the parameters used for the Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) live while the bike is running and also reset fault codes, remap fuel injection, verify stepper motor voltage and primary band secondary throttle position sensor output, etc. It's very handy for diagnostics and the download is free. You do have to pay for the license but that allows you up to 5 bikes per year you can register.
