electical Issues with accessories

The fact that I am never satisfied with leaving stock things alone always gets me in trouble. I have two electrical issues. The stock horn sucked so I up graded to a horn that was a improvement but still left me wanting. When that horn stopped working I bought The Stebble twin but it sounds like a lame duck. I put it directly on my trucks 12v battery and it practically blew my ears off. What am I doing wrong. My other problem is with an HID lighting system. When I hooked it up the low beam which is the HID circuit wouldn't light. The manufacture says I need a relay which I must admit I don't understand how they work. My dealer won't even attempt to install one saying they are nothing but trouble and he won't be responsible I can live without the lighting system but I really want a horn that wakes people up. Can anyone help?

Ya GOTTA use a relay with the Stebel.... in fact, you really oughta use relays with **** near ANY electrical item..... and the dealer sounds like he might be a good bloke to stay as far away from as possible.....

If you don't understand relays... you can Google how they work.. if you are not comfortable in doing the work yourself you could ask an auto electrician to do it if the dealer is too scared to go beyond the little bubble they live in.

I definitely like my dealer/tech. He is a fair minded and extremely knowledgeable independent. What my triumph dealer charges a grand for my man does for around half that. Do you know if the stock horn had a relay in the circuit or if there is someplace on line where I can get a complete wiring diagram for the bike. The only one that I can find I have not been able to blow upo I could even read it.

FYI
One other important thing to remember the horn button is an earth or ground circuit so the relay is wired accordingly through the relay LT coil circuit.

There are several threads on installing aftermarket horns and lighting.

There are different types of relays for different purposes. For the horn, you are looking at one of basic 4 pole types.

One connects directly to your battery (+) side. This is the power source.
One connects to to a suitable ground or the (-) terminal on the batt.
One connects to the item that you want to provide power to, i.e. the horn.
The last one connects to the switch circuit, i.e. the horn button.

When you hit the horn button, the horn circuit causes a switch within the relay to close and allow current to flow from the battery directly to the horn. In basic terms, a relays allows you to pass a LOT of power on demand with a low power switch.

As far as your lighting needs, instead of installing a HID system, you really should try to install the Eastern Beaver H4 Headlight Relay kit. It is a simple install and it makes a DRAMATIC difference in the headlight brightness.

wiring a stebel

Here you go try the wiring directions from this. However do not split the Stebel in 2 ,you do not need to do that for a Rocket Touring.
I mounted my Stebel in the same place as the original horn but had to make a bracket.
It fits perfectly.

Thanks for your help. I am going to order a relay and wiring harness along with the Eastern beaver H4 kit. I heard about his in the past but forgot to follow up on it. Do you know what the issue is that you need this kit to increase your output.
