Do I need to reseal cylinder liners?

Hey Guys,

I'm in the middle of a head gasket replacement. Service manual says that I need to pull and reseal all the cylinder head liners. I really don't want to. Can I get away with not doing it?

Did you have to pull the motor to get to the head gasket?

I've done piston changes without pull
pulling the liners although since I was rotating the crankshaft I did rig up some hold downs for the liners during rotation. I'd say you befine if you don't rotate the crank while changing.

I did my pistons, rods, liners, and head change, with the engine still in the frame.
 
 
Hey Warp! The reason I ask is I need to replace my head gasket and I really don’t have the facilities to do that kind of work. Any suggestions on just pulling the head?

@warp9.9 is a Jedi who helped me through this process. I did not replace the liners. Not necessary unless damaged, according to Neville Lush....

After removing the head, clamp each liner down before rotating the crank, should be ok, but there is always that chance it could go wrong.
 
 
Hey Warp! I’m mechanically inclined with boats and cars, but never worked on a bike. I live in Kemah, TX and am limited to a metal rental storage unit. I really want to keep this bike, but our local Triumph dealer quoted over $3-5k ….. ridiculous!!! I have the time, but limited facilities. On a scale of of 1-10 how difficult would you say the head gasket procedure is???? Thanks
