I just ordered the D@D exhaust kit for $525, but I forgot to ask if I needed to reflash my ECU. It doesnt say anything on the website so I'm assuming it's a small enough change it is not required.

Wrong assumption, Any time you decrease the back pressure in your engine by adding a set of pipes you increase the air flow. Unless you reprogram your ECU to add more fuel, then you create a lean situation that could damage your engine in some instances. If you are going to install the pipes yourself. Then call your dealer and make an appointment to have them install a factory program to fix the problem. Don't worry about hurting your engine while you are waiting to get the ECU reprogrammed. As long as you don't go out on the highway and run it at wide open throttle for long distances, the chances are slim you will damage the engine.
If you are changing the pipes, while you are at it you ought to go ahead and get a K&N under seat filter and a Power Commander. They are plug and play and will allow you to get the extra ponies and there won't be a need to go to the dealer. Spend the money that you would spend at the dealer on a PCIII. You won't regret it

my bike is all stock but when you change to aftermarket pipes, triple k&n's,is a power commander 3 all you need or do you still need tuneboy,or the dealership to change the tune,Im wanting to go with Jardine pipes, triple k&ns ,gi pro,pc3,is this all I will need ,sorry for newbie questions but Im a newbie to fuel injected bikes???thanks in advance!!!

Snofix, I just pulled my D&D's off this even and put Jardines on, I have a set for sale now. When I put my D&D's on I did a 12 minute tune and ran the bike, it ran fine because it adjusted itself, but I still suggest a PC3 that wil get it even better, I then had mine dyno'd on a dyno machine and there was a big difference!!! better performance and better fuel mileage.

I started with Jardines and a stock filter and a factory tune.. I installed a GiPro and removed my secondaries. That was a big improvement in throttle response and it eliminated the timing retard from the factory. I then added a PCIII and was really impressed with the way the bike responded. I probably could have quit there but I couldn't leave well enough alone. I ordered the triple K&N's and a TuneBoy. I un-hooked the PCIII and went with the TuneBoy and with the help of a few great guys here namely Pig9R (Brian). He hooked me up with a great program for the way my bike was set up. I ran the bike with just this tune for about 6 months and was very pleased.

Then I had a chance to get the bike to a dyno tune center and while I was there I reconnected the PCIII and had them dial it in. Man what a difference that made. The bike was running strong and no popping on decel with the program I was running and before he started adjusting the fuel with his computer, I was at 137 Hp and 142 ft.lbs of torque and about 24 mpg. After, I now am at 144 HP and 151 ft lbs of torque and 31 to 35 mpg.

Knowing what I know now, I probably would have been just as happy with the Jardines, triple K&N's, removed secondaries, GIPro and a PCIII that I had taken to a dyno and had dialed in. The Tuneboy was a challange because of the lack of knowledgable people here in the states and the lack of factory support from down under where the Tuneboy comes from.

I would bet that the Tuneboy has added less than 10 hp difference but I don't know this to be a fact. But for the money and the learning curve I had to go thru, I wouldn't do a tuneboy again. By going with a PCIII you are only getting half of the use out of it. You HAVE to take it to a dyno to get the full potential out of it.

That has been my experience over the last year with my Rock. But it has been a journey for sure and I have learned a lot about this big ol bike from over the big pond.
I can't think of any other bike out there that I would want to ride. For me the perfect bike would be a Goldwing that would run with a Busa. Until they make that bike, I guess I'm stuck with the Rock.

Good luck with your journey and your adventure with your Rocket.

I wouldn't even mess with the Triumph ECU tune and go right for a PCIII. The Triumph aftermarket exhaust tune richens the mix by closing the secondary throttle plates further.
I made that same mistake before I joined this site and the bike was noticably slower with less power when I picked it up from having the dealer load the tune.
Save the money you would be spending for it and use it toward a PCIII ... problem solved.
I'm running the exact setup as T-Evans except I have traded the D&D's for TOR's rather than Jardines. He's right about the power and performance ... it's the perfect setup to do from the start.

To answer your question.. D&D says no mods necessary.. If you do have popping on decel, the Triumph TOR tune, which can be loaded by your local dealer would should work great.. and it shouldn't cost as much as a PC-III to get it loaded...

Although.. if you're like all of the rest of us.. the exhaust system is just the start! If you have the PC-III, you can load different fuel maps as needed when you start doing other mods later on!.. hahaha...

I started out with stock.. then TORs with slip-in K&N air filter... now Jardines..and contemplating going with triple filters and trimming the bear claw to show them off.. :) It never ends!.. lol

Thanks guys,

Appreciate the advice. These sites are great to shorten the learning curve. When I first bought the bike I intended to leave it pretty much stock, but I should have known better.

I'd be grateful of some advice...I bought the R3 about 3 months ago, previous owner has removed baffles and made a **** job of it I might add! I am intending to remove the guts of the cat converter for exhaust note, not neccessarily more performance. I'm not a hard rider but do like to give it a decent blast once in a while. Am I risking the motor by this home made mod or should I get it tuned?????? It's a stock system.
