This past Saturday I was rear-ended by a gentleman in his Volvo. Fortunately, I was in my wife's Toyota. Only minor damage.

Unfortunately, another gentleman on his bike behind us was more severely rear-ended by a lady in a minivan. Crushed his leg against an SUV in front of him. Looked like a compound fracture to his tibia. ouch!!

With others recently reporting accidents involving oblivitard cagers, I've decided that I really need to brighten up the tail of the Rocket. The stock tail/brake light is woefully inadequate.

Hyperlites are the first thing to come to mind. I'd be interested in other's opinions.

Not as stylish but a bright colored jacket would probably be your best bet.

I ride with a black Tourmaster on at all times, and after hearing about everyone getting run over while sitting still I am trying to find one that has some yellow on it.

What we all could use is a flasher for the turn signals when we brake. Something that pulses them like warning lights. So you'd have the red light go bright and the left and right flashers going on and off alternately. I saw that done on a Trophy in 2002 but don't know what or how they got it to do it.

Geting rea ended is definately a concern of mine also. It usssually happens when someones head is up their ass and not paying attention. I try to keepa good vigil to the rear just in case. I wonder if the lights would really help in those situations?
The Jacket might help the most. I wear a black one also.

I have my rear light flash 4 times and then hold and repeat. If one is looking it should be visible, but I have thought about adding brake lights to my bags (R3T) I used to have those on a previous bike and liked the added light back there.

But I have to agree most rear end accidents occur when the person behind is not paying attention, not because they didnt see you. I always try to stop in a manner where if needed I can pull forward and look behind whenever I stop.

As always on the bike......you have to ride as if noone knows your there......

I ALWAYS see school buses with that bright strobe light on top. A flashing stobe on the back of the bike "on braking" would be cool if it didn't blind the driver behind you. (or be illegal). Any ideas?
