Going for a ride up to cairns on Monday picking up a few guys on the way up and a couple comming in from weipa ,I was just wondering if any body had been along those roads recently.
Drove my 4X4 up to cape tribulation sept. last year there was a lot of road works from Childers to Rocky and then again up around Cardwell. Spent alot of time in 60kph work zones or stopped at traffic controllers I'd guess it's still the same.
Thanks Bruce couldn't imagine it being any better as road tec have had a 80 percent reduction in there funding for road up grades . The guys comming in from weipa have 800 km,s of corrugated dirt roads before hitting the bitumen. I think I'd rather do the 2000 km,s on the bitumen even if there is a bit of road works going on
Just following up on the trip to see what the roads were like from Brisvagas to Cairns. How did the trip go. How do these bikes

the roads were better than what I was expecting. Allow about 3 hours for road works. The r3 handled the gravelly sections really we'll. I had a good time and thoroughly enjoyed riding up the Gillies range in to atherton then over the cairns hinterland to kuranda and then down to cairns .
enjoy your trip I did

Thanks for the info guys. I will be doing the trip in about a week and was a bit worried about unsealed road works, I haven't handled anything as big as a R3T in the gravel before. Rode dirt bikes for 30 years but I don't think that's going to mean SFA. Pete k, glad you enjoyed the trip. The ride from Cairns - Innisfail - Palmerston - Atherton - Mareeba and back to Cairns is a ride I never get tired of doing. Plenty of great places for a counter lunch and cold beer along the way.
Cheers.
