Riding a dirt bike when you were younger Will be beneficial as I did the same and I enjoy spinning the tyre in the gravell .I ride my r3 up 200 metres of gravel track every day to my truck and I must admit I can't help me self:D
hooligan!!!

Fat rubber tends to slide around more. My theory is they get a bigger area of loose stones under them and slide around more. I don't have much of a worry with the back it's the front sliding I don't enjoy. Had the same trouble with my Softail when I put 16 inch wheel on the front of it. If your riding in a group of Harley's and you hit gravel all the bikes with the fat 16 inch wheels will work there way to the back of the pack and the Softails with the 21 inch wheels end up at the front. I've seen this happen several times.

Dynas are like DR650's in the gravel compared to Rockets .. never baulked at a dirt track on any of my Harleys. You are right about the 16 inch front wheels though. Rode a blokes Harley Electra Glide through gravel road works once ... was an experience.

Might take it on some unsealed road to get the feel before i take off on the maiden voyage. Fly out to work tonight then head down to pick it up next week. Plan on milling around northern NSW catching up with some mates I haven't seen for years before heading back up. Will let you guys know how the trip went when I get back. Thanks heaps.
Cheers!

Newcastle and north, I saw your thread about Woodenbong on the 13th but I expect I'll be somewhere around Coffs by then. Sort of have heaps I want to do and little time to do it. Been advised we'll be passing through Avabong a few times though.

Just letting you guys know that the trip was a blast on this bike and I still have a grin the Joker would envy. Things didn’t quite go to plan but I managed to pick the bike at Maroochydore and do the Bruce Hwy to Cairns leg which is a really good run on these R3 Tourers. They certainly round the traffic up no problems at all. I bought the bike at Team Moto Maroochydore who were a good bunch to deal with. They did everything they possibly could to provide good service and they did it in spades. Rare these days!!!
If anyone knows the bike and the history of it I wouldn’t mind knowing if there is anything I can expect to spend money on or any maintenance that needs to be done to avoid any problems. It has 50,000kms so I expect there would be something that would be due. I would display the old rego number on this forum but I’m not sure if that’s a good idea.
If you are riding through Inkerman I recommend you stop at the old style road house on the southern side and get a home made works hamburger, they are a absolute killer with a couple of cold beers. Its on the highway opposite what looks like a couple of pale yellow railway station buildings.

Inkerman sounds like I must have blinked when I rode through it . Just north of Bowen some where ,I really can't remember it . I'm glad ya had a good ride and it sounds like the bike behaved well , I sure am getting itchy feet and would love to go on another decent ride . Some of the lads are going for a ride down south soon and it annoys me that I am unable to go as I havnt been to tassie ,any way I'm glad you had a good time and I'm sure you'll enjoy the r3 for many years to come .

Richard ,at the moment not able to mate ,I've still got a few hoops to jump through ,not reall happy about it but that's life.some times it just sux
