I know there are a couple threads on this subject buried in here somewhere but the search function is **** near worthless.

Any thoughts on which is better?

Had the Throttle Meister, agree on the quality, but not perfect for the shut off. I would rather have a device that lets go completely when you shut it off in an emergency. Not a real problem though. But I took it off cause it adds an inch on the lane splitting thing, (maybe ya'll wouldn't understand!
On the New York trip I used a poor mans throttle meister. (a rubber o-ring jammed in the space between the bar end and the throttle). I believe that is more dangerous than I suspect, especially when you use it at speed in the rain    .

I've got the Throttle Meister on both my Rocket (for 2 years) and my Daytona (for 11 years). I've never wished I didn't have them. They are a life savers on long rides. If you grab the brake in an emergency, you naturally roll the throttle off while you're squeezing the brake. I usually set them with just enough tension that the throttle doesn't spring back when you let go so it's easy to adjust while you're riding. I've never tried the other, but I'd rather not have the extra components to look at. The Throttle Meister is clean and simple. Nothing more than a bar-end weight.

+1 on the TM. I have one on both my 1150GS and my Rocket and wouldn't be without them. I didn't have it on the Rocket for my cross country but installed one prior to my Las Vegas trip. It made a huge difference in riding comfort.

It comes with a shim kit and takes a bit of care when initially setting it up to get a total release. One of the features I like about it is the ability to adjust it for a small amount of friction while riding. That way one can have full throttle control while reducing the stress on the wrist. The TM comeS in two lengths, standard and heavy. I have the heavy, which adds about 1/2inch I believe. I think the standard is about the same as the stock bar ends.

Unlike Turbo, I don't have the nads to lane split when riding in California and like the extra length. And BTW, I have both the TM and the palm rest. I use the latter when in and out of the twisties.

+3 years here never a problem. I believe they make shorter, lighter versions also. Another advantage reported is less vibration.

Throttlemeister will out last the thumb-lock type as well. I used a thumb-lock on my Yamaha XS1100 some years ago and by the time I sold it I had used all the adjustment out of it (friction ring worn down). The Throttlemeister doesn't have a wear point like that so should last many years, trouble free (I've been using one for 6 years no problem, no adjustment). The thumb-lock is easier to use, it takes a little time to learn the technique to roll the Throttlemeister on without affecting speed vice just pushing down on a button. But once you master it, it's no problem. The only down side to Throttlemeister is the price, but it is quality materials and a quality look, so I use it.

50 cent throttle lock......................

I personally like my 50 cent Flipmeister Throttle Lock. If you go to the other forum and search it, you'll find the thread and the install instructions. Basically, it's a pair of black neoprene washers fitted between the bar end and the grip. The tension is adjusted by moving the switchgear casting closer or farther away from the bar ends which applies more or less tension to the washers.

Instant release (for emergency situations) is obtained by simply twisting the bar end slightly. It's flexible mount will move away from the throttle grip itself if twisted, allowing immediate closing of the throttle.

It will work on any bike with flexible bar ends and non-integral switchgear.

You can't beat the the price. 50 cents and about a half hour of your time. Compare that to the Throttlemeister or the Kayko. Send me the difference, I need the money.

Can you use the Throttlemiester with heated grips? Does one effect

the other?
