Not funny haha, but funny as in behaving odd.

I did a compression test to see what the carpenter 240 cylinder pressure is like (disconnected all leads from plugs, and removed fuel pump relay)
and since then its ran fairly rough at low rpms and idle, and cuts out when idling regularly.
AFR is fairly jumpy and not constant at idle and very low rpm, and idle rpms are not smooth, they're a bit jumpy.
it also goes mad lean around 2000rpm in particular when not on throttle. occasional sudden lapse of power at 1500-2000rpm then comes back suddenly.

I did the ISCV reset and found the TPS was at 0.60v and ISCV at 0.72v so no probs there. i had a cough-and-almost-cuts-out at idle before after i had the throttles off and the ISCV reset fixed that, but not this time.

updated the firmware and reloaded the PCV map as the PCV went mad several months ago and doing that fixed it.
didnt help this time.

so now i was thinking maybe clean and tighten the spade connectors on the coils, but ignition problem shouldn't be causing lean running off throttle?
or the roughness at idle. that much suggest fueling so either PCV (which seems legit) or the ECU map.
ran perfect before compression test, and now rough. must be something i did.

i really hope the ECU isnt going corrupt AGAIN................compression test hardly did it damage.....anybody got any ideas? :surrender:

CHeck wher the throttle bodies and make sure they are seated in the manifold and that you did not tear the manifond flanges. I had one go and talk about lean when sucking in the air below the throttle bodies. Also check all vacuum line while your at it. The Flange of the mainfolds where it reduces is where mine tore I di dnot notice it until I took the TB's back off. It could be one is not seated and getting air but not torn like mine.

I'd be wary of turning the engine over with the plug leads off. Electronic ignitions don't usually like running without a path to ground.

i was thinking this too after but i had 2 of the 3 coils disconnected from the loom, would that still damage ECU?
and would it damage it in a way that it still runs fine on thottle but dodgy in low rpms and off throttle?

Arto take a look see at your injector plugs to make sure they are still connected a loose connection could give iterrupted/sparratic fuel delivery.

Sounds like an intermittent ignition miss. A miss sends raw fuel out the manifold which then is sensed by the O2 sensor which tells the ECU that the engine is rich so it leans out the fuel delivery which then promotes further misses, so the ECU opens the throttle to keep the engine at target rpm: so all this means the ECU constantly compensates for the oxygen content and rpm which constantly changes due to the mis-firing (much like a pup chasing her own tail.) Double check primary and secondary coil leads, clean and crimp them if needed and make sure the spark plugs are good. Reset adaptives so the ECU runs on the base map at restart. Also check that the MAP sensor (vacuum lines) are routed and attached correctly to each TB. Good luck.

This could be true but I believe Arto has the O2 sensor shut down in the ECU and is using a wide band senor gauge to monitor his A/F raito. Although the new Tuneboy/TuneEdit comes with a Innovate wide band system that is usable with the new multi trim map system. Not sure if Arto is using that or not?

thats right Scott the o2 sensor is blanked off as far as the ECU is concerned but i do have a wideband o2 sensor hooked up to the PC5.

connection all appear solid, injectors vacuum lines and throttle bodies.
the more i think of it the more it seems like ECU map issue what with the odd ignition lapse and the leaning out off throttle and general dodginess around 2000rpm, especially seeing as the autotune is trying to add loads of fuel on the table in the same places where i see lean on the gauges when running.

hence i'm investing in the original tuneboy cable...... just hope a reload of the map sorts it and i've not lost another ECU :surrender:
