Hi. I have the Windvest 16x16 windscreen and the 1"upx2"back handlebar risers. I am 5'10"... here's the problem

Obivously, I installed a windscreen to avoid some of the windblast when doing highway riding or just keeping up with my ******-rocket buddies. The problem is that the combination I have is basically giving me a concentrated wind-blast now straight at the middle of my head. I have tried all the angles of the windvest mounting without solving the problem.

I dont know if it is because I have the windscreen 2" further back than it was designed for (because of risers) or I just need a taller (or wider too?) windscreen.

I thought I could get used to it, but its beating the crap out of me :)

Anybody have input on this?

Paul

Paul,
Have you flipped the windvest brackets to give you an extra inch, also if you place a strip of door edging on to of the shield this should disturb the air enough

I'm going thru the same thing on mine . . . either it's too short or too tall . . . each rider being different heights will have to experiment with various settings and maybe buy another taller shield to block more wind.

I went thru three shields on my V-Star 1100 before I found one that was just right. On that bike I went shorter and angled it more like a sport shield. I'd rather have full head blast coming in smooth as buffeting like a back window bobbing dog.

An interesting twist to the windvest problem...

I installed the Progressive 440's today which lowers the back-end somewhat and changes the angle of where I am heightwise on the bike. I found that doing that dropped the overall angle on the front by a bunch, and in the process, may have improved the situation.

More testing/adjusting required to see if I 'really' have a new angle for improving the situation.

I really like the Progressives, as an aside.

I just cut mine to soze. Time consuming but it worth it.

Put wide masking tape on BOTH sides of the screen, mark the new shape you want it to be.
I used a jig saw with a brand new metal blade. Set the Jig saw3 at speed 3 (3 on 8) and slowly cut it. Make sure every so often you cool your blade.
I put a layer of masking tape on the jig saw as well for precaution.

Leaving the masking tape on, I sanded teh edges with a palmsander with 80 grit until all the saw "lines" dissapeared.

Afterward I used 220 grit paper and sanded the edge again for smothness.

Sanded at 45 degrees the corners (with the masking tape still on!) so that they are not sharp.

Lastly removed the masking tape, washed and it looks just like a factory one!.

I am 6'2" with a long torso and have a large posterior... The new 16x18 cuts the head windblast by 85% as opposed to the Triumph summer screen... I do however get more wind on my arms and shoulder since the windvest is more narrow than the Trimph summer screen...

Mike...

I bought the 14" and have it angled back quite a bit. I'm 6'1" and the air blast isn't very rough. I have noticed that quite a bit of air actually comes up from under the mount area. I was planning to block this area off with a thin piece of plexiglass bolted to the bottom of the mounts.
All in all I've been very happy with the 14".

Hi, looking to get a Rocket very shortly. Took one for a test with the larger Triumph screen and it battered my head. I'm 6'3" and like to sit up straight, which raises me into the wind blast. Please can anyone suggest what screen I could use?
Hello Nicko...welcome to the forum. Have you introduced yourself to all the others in the, "Meet the members" forum?

I'm 6'1" & have the Triumph Roadster screen. It is too short for me 'cause I, too, get the vibrating helmet. I have ordered the Clearview GT25 25" L, which is 5" Longer than Stock and 2" Wider than Stock

And I opted for the 5-position vent

Only problem is they have a 7-8 week backlog, so I don't expect mine until the end of September. I'll let you know how it works once I get it.

We are the same height, have a look at what I ended up doing... maybe not the prettiest thing going but I traveled most of the way to Sturis and back with my flip up in the up position @ 75mph.

Even with the screen raised, my eye level is 4" above top of screen.

Hope you find your solution soon, head buffetting is a pain.

Cheers,
