I'm still on the factory battery. But I will tell you that I have never had a problem with startup. And I live in Canada and have started my bike at 3 degrees celcius with no problem using the stock battery.

I put a Shorai lithium in my 05. It certainly spins the motor over faster than the stocker and is unbelievably light weight. I did read somewhere that they do not hold a charge as well as regular batteries in cold weather, but living in the cold far north I did not experience that problem. I did have cold start problems with that bike prior to putting in the Shorai.

with the cca # at 700 it must turn over like a coffee grinder .. wow .
I also need a battery I was going with a known battery I ran for years the ODYSSEY PC 680 an AGM that lasted 4 years
now I am going to look at Lithium see if I can get a good compromise. price /quality

Go for that SSB Powersport job.... there's a bloke in Adelaide who sells them for about fifty bucks less than anyone else.. can't remember his name... you'll find him by searching SSB on da Gigglenet... brilliant battery... weighs b-all.... much better all round than the AGM ones.....(and dearer!!!)

do you need a special charger for these batteries

My next battery change ( still on the factory ) i'll be putting in same brand of jetski battery i used in my last 2 Vmax's , expensive but reliable , have to be who wants to be stuck out on the water :)

Read up on cold starts using LiFePO4 batteries, the type everyone buy shorai uses. It's not a straight up, press button ride motorcycle procedure. There is some level of push button, wait, push button wait, push button, wait until the internal chemistry is warmed up before it'll actually fire the bike over.

On ballisitics website they show it using a 103 hardley, that procedure is considered "normal behavior" and not a basis for warranty. If you can live with it, they're great, if you want "push button, ride bike", go with an AGM.
