I have been having trouble with the original battery on the R3 in the early cold mornings and was thinking of replacing it with a higher amp/hr.
Has anyone done the same or have found alternatives? 8) I have also been thinking of increasing the space for the battery so that I could perhaps fit a larger one if needed. Any ideas? 8)

Mike, I had problems on a trip during a cold snap in upper Wisconsin...decided to replace the battery there-and-then since keeping her on a charger overnight wasn't an option. The local HD dealer was closest and their 19ah battery P/N 65989-97A was a perfect fit ($89 USD) after lining up several of their batteries. If I recall correctly, the ah rating of the original battery was less - it didn't last 2 yrs, but then I run alot of accy: heated seat, heated grips, fog lamps, and GPS.

Thanks for the info Cpt Rich. I also run heated grips and fogs but not very often. My battery only lasted 6 months  I will try your option.
Cheers
Mike

Sorry I forgot to mention that the Triumph dealer quoted me £77 for a replacement. I wish Triumph would wear a mask when they try to rob us!

I have just got off the phone to a HD dealer in London. The battery P/N 65989-97A is now 65989-97B and in Blighty it will set you back £91.98 inc vat. That works out as $168.42.

Ouch! They should at least kiss you when they screw you like that....alternately, take your battery anywhere they sell Exide-Yousa (they manufacture most OEM batteries anyway) and size up a replacement of at least 18-20ah - pay particular attention to the battery dimensions, including height, and where the terminals are located. The HD battery was IDENTICAL to the stock Triumph battery and fit like a glove, but at $168 USD, I understand the hesitation.

I got my OEM battery replaced a year ago by one at a Batteries Plus store. Size and terminals are same as the stock YUASA. Just look up the battery for a Rocket III on their site and bring in the part number to a store.

i keep mine on the optimate battery conditioner all the time it isnt out on the road. so far not had any batt related problems, although I know a number of UK guys who have had them. I think as long as mine keeps its ass tight until the end of the warranty I will opt for a non-triumph brand - perhaps Hardley Movinson but will check to see if using such a battery will slow the Rocket down any 8)
