These days, insurance companies total bikes that aren't damaged that badly simply because the replacement parts are so expensive...We all know that from buying genuine Triumph parts.....

Interestingly, photographs don't really show damage that a close up examination can reveal. I've seen trucks that look pretty good be totalled because the driveline got shoved forward or sideways and the motor mounts broke or cracked right off the blocks. Remember, the R3 engine is a stressed member of the frame so hard shocks can and will destroy the engine block in short order.

That, coupled with the cost of replacement parts can drive the cost past Blue Book value in short order.

New Update 7/12/07

I visited Bob at Bayside Manor today, he went thru a lot of physical therapy. He said he has a lot of minutes on his Trac phone so if anyone wants to call him the number is (850) 748-2083.

He was kind of at a loss as to what he might need, but since they had to cut his "size matters" Rocket t-shirt off after the accident, he wouldn't mind another one (XL). Other than that he is currently negotiating access for his laptop to tie into the network at the "manor". So he may be posting soon.
